Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking an Acoustics Engineer in Maryland to conduct acoustic testing of chillers and air handlers in line with AHRI standards. You will plan experiments, collect data, analyze results, and report findings while guiding internal teams and responding to customer inquiries.

Strong background in acoustics, vibration or signal processing is required, with lab testing and data analysis experience. A related engineering degree is essential, and an advanced acoustics degree is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related science required.
  • 2+ years of professional Acoustics Engineer experience.
  • Background in acoustics, vibration, or signal processing.
  • Advanced degree in acoustics or related coursework preferred.
  • Laboratory testing experience with acoustic measurement systems.
  • Knowledge of Acoustic FEA or SEA methods.
  • Experience with data analysis tools (MATLAB/Python).

Responsibilities

  • Conduct acoustic testing of chillers and air handlers per AHRI standards.
  • Plan and execute test activities including instrumentation setup and data reporting.
  • Provide technical guidance to internal teams and support customer inquiries.
  • Research patents and literature to identify state-of-the-art acoustics solutions.
  • Participate in design reviews to embed sound and vibration considerations early.
  • Assist in development of product sound ratings for marketing.
  • Drive continuous improvement in acoustics methods and test processes.
  • Collaborate across cross-functional engineering teams.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct acoustic testing of chillers and air handlers in accordance with AHRI standards and industry best practice
  • Plan and execute test activities, including instrumentation setup, data collection, analysis, and reporting of results
  • Provide technical guidance to internal teams (engineering, applications) and support external customer inquiries as needed
  • Research patents and technical literature to identify state-of-the-art solutions and develop innovative noise control strategies
  • Participate in design reviews to ensure sound and vibration considerations are incorporated early in development
  • Support the development of product sound ratings for marketing and sales use
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives related to product acoustics and test methods
  • Assume sound and vibration responsibility within cross‑functional engineering teams
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related science
  • 2+ years of professional experience as an Acoustics Engineer
  • Background in acoustics, vibration, or signal processing
  • Advanced degree in acoustics or coursework emphasizing acoustics and vibration (preferred)
  • Experience in a testing laboratory and with acoustic measurement systems (e.g., sound level meters, intensity probes, microphones, accelerometers)
  • Knowledge of Acoustic Finite Element Analysis (FEA) or Statistical Energy Analysis (SEA)
  • Experience with data analysis tools (e.g., MATLAB, Python, or similar)
