Job summary

The Harris Center for Mental Health and IDD is seeking an Accounting Team Lead to guide general ledger activities, oversee staff, and ensure accurate monthly closes and financial reporting.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting required.
  • CPA, other professional certification or Master's degree preferred.
  • At least 5 years of relevant accounting experience with strong background in financial reporting, GL management, and reconciliations (preferably in governmental or non-profit).
  • At least 1 year of treasury maintenance/management experience preferred.
  • Preference for 2+ years leading GL staff.
  • Ability to interpret/apply accounting policies ensuring GAAP and GASB compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares/reviews routine and non-routine monthly journal entries and reconciliations with timely, accurate activity and supporting docs.
  • Assist with coordinating monthly close and ensure deadlines; produce accurate financial statements/reports; analyze trends and variances.
  • Communicate with external/internal auditors regarding financial reporting matters.
  • Assist with special projects including accounting standard implementations and reporting for component entities.
  • Train and supervise staff; review staff work papers, journal entries and projects.
  • Coordinate daily responsibilities of General Ledger staff and identify issues for management.

The Harris Center for Mental Health and IDD (“The HARRIS CENTER”) is looking for an Accounting Team Lead to join our team. The Accounting Team Lead is responsible for leading and overseeing general ledger activities and staff, ensuring the proper classification, reconciliation, and reporting of all financial transactions. The role ensures timely and accurate completion of monthly close processes and financial reporting. Prepares balance sheets, profit and loss statements, and other financial reports. Responsibilities include analyzing trends in costs, revenues, and financial commitments and preparing variance explanations. Prepares and reviews routine and non-routine journal entries and account reconciliations, coordinating daily responsibilities and projects of staff accountants. Assist with hiring new staff and responsible for training staff. This position works under minimal supervision with latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

What you will do:
  • Prepares and reviews routine and non-routine monthly journal entries and account reconciliations ensuring that all account activity is recorded timely, accurately, and is consistent with sufficient supporting documentation.
  • Assists with coordinating monthly close process and ensures deadlines are met. This includes producing accurate financial statements and financial reports on a timely basis. Assists with analysis of financial trends and preparation of variance explanations.
  • Communicate with external and internal auditors regarding financial reporting matters.
  • Assists with special projects including but not limited to accounting standard implementation and financial reporting for component entities.
  • Assists with training new and existing staff, reviewing staff work papers, journal entries and projects.
  • Assists with coordinating daily responsibilities of General Ledger (GL) Accounting staff.
  • Identifies issues and communicates them to management including resolution of issues.
  • Performs treasury and cash management functions including but not limited to, analyzing cash flow and preparing cash transfer requests to maximize interest earnings while meeting operational needs and processing electronic fund transfers including wires and ACHs.
What qualifications you will need:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting required
  • CPA, other professional certification or Master's degree preferred .
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in accounting, with a strong background in financial reporting, general ledger management, and reconciliations, preferably in a governmental entity or non-profit environment.
  • At least 1 year of relevant experience with treasury maintenance and management preferred.
  • Preference given to candidates with at least 2 years of experience leading or supervising general ledger accounting staff.
  • Ability to interpret and apply accounting policies and procedures ensuring consistency with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and financial reporting standards set by the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB)
