Job summary

Qualifications

• 3+ years of hands-on accounts receivable experience.
• Experience in real estate/property management and knowledge of affordable housing programs is a plus.
• Strong Excel skills with attention to detail and organization.
• Familiarity with Section 8/HPD/NYCHA/HAP or similar housing subsidy programs is a plus.
• Associate or bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Process and post tenant rent payments (checks, electronic payments, wires, subsidies).
• Maintain accurate tenant ledgers and research payment discrepancies.
• Review suspense, prepaid, and deposit accounts and assist with move-out accounting.
• Handle recurring tenant charges, credits, utility billbacks, rent bills, and late fees.
• Monthly AR aging and delinquency reporting for property management teams.
• Assist with additional accounts receivable and accounting projects as needed.

I’m working with an established real estate and property management organization that is looking to add an Accounts Receivable Specialist to its accounting team.

This is a great opportunity for someone with strong hands‑on AR experience who understands tenant accounting, rent payments, property management, and housing subsidy programs.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Process and post tenant rent payments, including checks, electronic payments, wire transfers, and subsidy-related receipts.
• Maintain accurate tenant ledgers and research payment discrepancies or outstanding balances.
• Review suspense, prepaid, and deposit accounts and assist with move‑out accounting.
• Handle recurring tenant charges, credits, utility billbacks, rent bills, and applicable late fees.
• Monthly AR aging and delinquency reporting for property management teams.
• Assist with additional accounts receivable and accounting projects as needed.

What They’re Looking For

• 3+ years of hands‑on related accounts receivable experience
• Experience within real estate, property management and some level of knowledge with affordable housing (current or previous)
• Working knowledge of Yardi
• Strong Excel skills with excellent attention to detail, organization, and problem‑solving abilities.
• Familiarity with Section 8, HPD, NYCHA, HAP, or similar housing subsidy programs is a plus.
• An Associate or bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related, a plus
