Job summary

City of Austin seeks an Accounts Payable Supervisor to oversee the AP function for the Austin Water Department, ensuring timely payment of vendor invoices and accurate record-keeping. The role requires strong leadership, process discipline, and collaboration with multiple internal teams.

Responsibilities include guiding staff, developing procedures, enforcing internal controls, and resolving payment discrepancies with internal and external customers.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field plus two years of related experience, one year of which was in a lead or supervisory capacity.
• Experience may substitute for education up to four years.
• Experience with accounts payable and internal controls preferred.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate daily workflow to ensure timely preparation, review, and approval of payments.
• Maintain internal controls and document accounting procedures.
• Reconcile general ledger clearing accounts.
• Provide guidance and training on AP processes.
• Assist departments and external vendors with payment inquiries.
