Qualifications

Job Summary: We are seeking a hands-on Accounts Payable Lead with the initiative and capability to grow into a broader general ledger accounting role. This role will oversee the daily operations of the AP function while also supporting general ledger activities and process improvement initiatives. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, solutions-focused, and excited to evolve with a dynamic and growing accounting team.

Key Responsibilities: Accounts Payable Oversight:

  • Manage the daily operations of the AP function, including invoice processing, approvals, payments, and vendor communications.
  • Supervise, mentor, and support the AP Specialist; assist with workload prioritization and development.
  • Ensure accurate and timely execution of weekly payment runs and credit card reconciliations.
  • Maintain vendor records and ensure resolution of discrepancies and compliance with company policies.
  • Review and approve AP batches, ensuring proper coding and alignment with budget and project information.
  • Oversee employee expense report reviews and ensure compliance with Travel & Expense policy.

Process Improvement & System Optimization:

  • Identify and implement AP process improvements, standard operating procedures, and internal controls.
  • Collaborate with the Accounting Manager on ERP enhancements and AP automation tools (NetSuite preferred).
  • Lead initiatives to improve vendor onboarding, paperless workflows, and payment accuracy.

General Ledger Support:

  • Support monthly close activities by preparing AP-related accruals, reconciliations, and journal entries.
  • Assist with balance sheet account reconciliations and variance analysis.
  • Participate in audits by preparing AP schedules and responding to auditor inquiries.
  • Grow into a broader role assisting with GL maintenance, intercompany transactions, and fixed asset tracking.

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge of AP processes, systems, and internal controls.
  • Experience leading or mentoring others; ability to drive accountability and efficiency.
  • Excellent communication and vendor relationship skills.
  • Solid understanding of general accounting principles.
  • ERP experience required (NetSuite preferred).
  • Organized, analytical, and process-driven with a continuous improvement mindset.
  • High integrity and discretion with confidential information.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting is required.
  • 4+ years of experience in Accounts Payable, with at least 1 year in a lead or supervisory capacity.
  • Exposure to general ledger accounting required.
