Job summary

The Department of Labor and Workforce Development, Division of Employment and Training Services, in Juneau, seeks an Accounting Technician 1/2 to support UI Tax operations. The role involves customer service by phone or email, registering employers, and processing quarterly reports and tax payments.

You will collaborate with five field offices statewide and contribute to accurate wage records and tax computations while upholding Alaska statutes and regulations.

Qualifications

• One year of clerical work experience with basic arithmetic and computer systems.
• Substitutions: formal vocational program in accounting or bookkeeping can substitute for required experience.
• Post-secondary education can substitute for experience (3 semester/4 quarter hours = 1 month).
• For Level 2, one year of entry-level accounting or clerical bookkeeping experience.
• Substitutions: Accounting Technician credential can substitute for experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide customer service to the public by telephone or email.
• Register new employers for UI Tax accounts.
• Process Alaska Quarterly Contribution reports and tax payments.
• Research and update discrepancies in employer accounts and wage records.
• Prepare and process accounting adjustments and refunds.
