Description

The Department of Health and Human Services has an immediate opening for an unclassified, part-time, Accounting Technician (Non-Career). Reporting to the Senior Accountant, this position performs various complex and technical accounting functions in the Financial Services Division, including the purchase, tracking, and payment of large City-wide vendor accounts for the Department. This position is located at the main health department office at 2525 Grand Ave, Long Beach, CA 90815.

Non-Career employees are allowed a maximum of 1,600 work hours over a 12-month period, are considered temporary, at-will employees, and are not typically eligible for benefits. However, they may qualify for health coverage and sick leave accruals subject to applicable laws.

Examples of Duties
  1. Sets up and maintains ledger accounts, journals, registers, and accounting records, including City-wide vendor accounts.
  2. Processes vendor invoices, direct payments, and reimbursements.
  3. Sorts and routes incoming and outgoing documents.
  4. Prepares journal entries for various divisions and departments.
  5. Reconciles, codes, posts, and inputs data in Tyler-Munis Financial System.
  6. Processes daily deposit transactions in Munis.
  7. Applies internal controls as instructed.
  8. Balances accounts and makes adjusting and closing entries.
  9. Prepares reports and maintains grant drawdown databases.
  10. Assists in computing and distributing costs.
  11. Supports distribution of charges under Tyler-Munis.
  12. Assists in reviewing financial reports related to grants billing.
  13. Performs computations on complex financial data.
  14. Trains staff on policies, procedures, and Tyler-Munis system.
  15. Reviews work of clerical staff involved in accounting.
  16. Acts as a subject matter expert on Tyler-Munis.
  17. Performs other related duties.
Requirements to File
  • Education equivalent to an Associate of Arts degree in Accounting or a related field (including specific courses in Intermediate Accounting). Proof required.
  • One year of full-time experience performing complex clerical accounting duties.

Additional experience may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis. Required documents must be uploaded in PDF format.
