Stafford County Government's Finance department is seeking an Accounting Technician to perform clerical and accounting tasks, including data entry, journal entries, and maintaining financial records. The role supports auditors and prepares financial reports.

The ideal candidate is meticulous, detail-focused, and able to work in a fast-paced public sector environment. Pay ranges from $22.05 to $38.59 hourly with growth opportunities based on experience.

The position performs accounting technician duties to include the preparation and/or maintenance of fiscal or related records; data entry; completion of journal entries; maintenance of electronic document files and support Finance customers. The position will also assist accountants with year-end audit support and financial report preparation.

The hiring range for this position is $22.05 to $30.32 per hour based on experience. The full salary range for this position is from $22.05 to $38.59 per hour to provide opportunity for growth and development.

• Posting journal entries and reconciling funds.

• Gathers, assembles, and tabulates budgetary and other financial data;
• Checks invoices, maintains financial and statistical records and compiles reports;
• Assists with gathering information in response to audits;?
• Assists with accounts payable and receivable entry;
• Tracks construction/contractor payments and arranges for transfer of funds;?
• Collates, sorts, and compiles fiscal data in accordance with procedures;
• Performs related tasks as required.

• Thorough knowledge of bookkeeping terminology, methods, procedures and equipment; general knowledge of standard office procedures, practices, and equipment;
• General knowledge of governmental accounting principles, procedures, practices, and related data processing systems, equipment and software;
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions;
• Ability to establish and follow detailed work procedures;
• Ability to post accounts and to perform mathematical computations with speed and accuracy utilizing computer system;
• Ability to get along well with others.

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school, supplemented by courses in bookkeeping and extensive experience in general office work.
