Job summary

The City of Chicago Department of Law seeks a paraprofessional accountant to perform accounting and auditing duties under supervision. The role focuses on processing A/P invoices and keeping transaction data up to date and auditable by account and reference numbers.

You will verify balances and expenditures across department accounts and contracts, ensure charges align with line items, and maintain backup documents.

Qualifications

• Two years of paraprofessional accounting or auditing experience.
• Alternative: Associate’s degree or higher in Accounting.
• Alternative: Associate’s degree + 15 semester hours in Accounting.

Responsibilities

• Process A/P invoices and keep the transaction data up to date and accurately audited by account and or reference numbers.
• Verify account balances and expenditures for multiple department accounts and funds.
• Verify and process contract data and expenditures and ensure that charges are accurate according to line items and/or contract allowable charges.
• Ensures that payments are consistent with backup documents kept up-to-date and organized.
• Ensure that processing of expenditures is executed using the correct funding sources and reviewed for accuracy in calculations.
• Prepares requisitions and receipts for processing vouchers and contracted charges.
• Recognize budget limits on allocations and/or allotments and requests a modification of accounts as necessary to ensure accurate charges across multiple accounts and funds.

• Graduation from an accredited college or university with an Associate’s degree or higher in Accounting
• Graduation from an accredited college or university with an Associate’s degree or higher, plus 15 semester hours in Accounting
