Walnut Valley Unified School District is seeking an Accounting Technician to support district and school fiscal activities. The role involves preparing financial data, maintaining records, and assisting in budget controls in a clerical capacity.
The position requires three years of accounting experience, High School completion, and strong data entry and numeric skills. It is an 8-hour daily role for 11 months, with a focus on accuracy and timely reporting.
We are accepting applications for Accounting Technician. Currently, we have one opening for a 8-hours, 11-month employee. The work hours are 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
The eligibility list will be used to fill current and future permanent openings and will be certified for six months.
Under the direction of an administrator or designee, to perform specialized accounting and budget control clerical functions; maintain financial and statistical records, utilizing manual and computer assisted processes; perform difficult and technical accounting and budget control clerical functions pertaining to the various District and school fiscal activities, record management; and to do other related work as required. Incumbents in this classification provide students and staff with a variety of specialized accounting and budget control fiscal clerical functions services which in turn directly supports learning.
Performs specialized and technical functions in assembling, tabulating, calculating, verifying, and filing accounting and fiscally related information and data.

Experience: Three (3) years of highly responsible experience in accounting, or budget control record management and reporting, including one (1) year in a lead or specialized capacity.
Education: Equivalent to the completion of High School, supplemented by knowledge, specialized training or coursework, in accounting, bookkeeping, business office organization and planning, or closely related fields.
Persons performing service in this position classification will be expected to perform light medium work, which involves lifting no more than 20 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 pounds. Even though the weight lifted may be very little, a job is in this category when it requires a good deal of walking or standing, or when it involves sitting most of the time with some pushing and pulling of arm or leg controls. To be considered capable of performing a full or wide range of light work, an incumbent must have the ability to do substantially all of these activities. If someone can do light work, it is deemed that he or she can also do sedentary work, unless there are additional limiting factors such as loss of fine dexterity or inability to sit for long periods of time. (Per the Code of Federal Regulations - Section 404.1567 "Physical Exertion Requirements")

Employees working less than full-time, but a minimum of four hours will contribute an amount proportionate to the number of assigned work hours for major medical insurance benefits. The District does not offer a package of insurance benefits to employees working less than four hours per day. The District provides life insurance for employees who work a minimum of 3 hours. In addition, the District offers a retirement plan which uses joint employee and employer contributions.

For positions requiring a valid First Aid and/or CPR certification, candidates must maintain a current status through their date of hire. If the certification expires prior to the start of the assignment, the candidate is responsible for renewing it before their first day. Throughout employment, it is the employee’s responsibility to maintain any required certification and ensure that it remains current and valid.
Employees will be charged for processing their fingerprints at the time they are hired. The fingerprints are used to complete a confidential background investigation. All candidates with a record of convictions must indicate such on the confidential data form, which is attached to the job application. Newly hired employees must pass a qualifying Medical examination given by a District-appointed physician, which includes testing for illegal controlled substances.
Newly hired employees must submit a Mantoux Skin screening and certificate of completion within the past 60 days that indicates freedom from active tuberculosis.
An Eligibility Verification Form (I-9) will be required along with the supporting documents listed on the I-9 form.
