Job summary

VOA Illinois in Chicago, IL is seeking an Accounting Supervisor to lead the general ledger, monthly and annual close, and financial reporting processes. You will oversee journal entries, billing, accounts receivable, and grant/contract accounting while ensuring accuracy and compliance.

The position requires a Bachelor’s in Accounting or Finance and 4+ years of related experience, with strong GAAP knowledge and proficiency in key accounting systems.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • 4+ years of related professional experience.
  • Firm grasp of GAAP and apply principles to accounting functions.
  • Familiarity with OMB Uniform Guidance for Federal Awards.
  • CPA is a plus.
  • Experience with accounting systems such as Great Plains, Financial Edge, MIP or SAS.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Strong communication skills—verbal and written.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and maintain the general ledger accounting system. Includes the completion and control over the monthly and annual closing process.
  • Assist with the preparation of monthly and quarterly financial reports.
  • Supervise and inputs monthly journal entries.
  • Supervise billing and accounts receivable process.
  • Maintain accounting records for all grants and contracts.
  • Prepare monthly bank reconciliations.
  • Perform financial analysis and modeling.
  • Research and correct accounting discrepancies in accordance with GAAP.
  • Oversee payroll process.
  • Verify cost allocations are in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Perform reconciliation of intra-company transactions, major asset, liability, revenue and expense accounts to insure general ledger accuracy.

Job description

Location: Chicago, IL 60605

Pay: $75,000 - $95,000 annually

Schedule: Full Time, Non-Exempt (40 hours/week)

The Accounting Supervisor is responsible for managing the overall accounting operations process, financial reporting, ad hoc reporting, accounting close process, revenue and fixed asset analyses and payroll analysis.

Work Environment & Schedule
  • Full-time, in-office position averaging 40 hours per week

Qualifications
Required
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Accounting or Finance
  • 4+ years of related professional experience
  • Have a firm grasp of GAAP and be able to use these principles, theories, concepts and practices and able to apply them to a variety of accounting functions.
  • Familiarity with OMB Uniform Guidance accounting principles for Federal Awards.
  • Having a CPA is a plus
  • Familiarity with accounting systems and reporting functions such as Great Plains, Financial Edge, MIP or SAS.
  • Must be proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Have very strong communications skills – both verbal and written are a must.
