ACCOUNTING SPECIALIST III

Job Summary

Under general supervision, performs a wide variety of financial and accounting duties including preparation, verification and processing of accounts payable, accounts receivable transactions (including deposits) and reconciliations.

Reviews and processes Reports of Costs Incurred (RCIs) submitted by grantees ensuring compliance with all grantor and State requirements; processes the correspondng requests for reimbursement from grantors.

Assists in the preparation of financial reports, training and guidance provided to grantees, co-workers and management when needed and as directed.

Job Duties
  • Logs, reviews and verifies Reports of Costs Incurred (RCIs) submitted by grantees to ensure accuracy, completeness and compliance with grant and program fiscal requirements. Processes the RCIs for payment in a timely fashion and processes the corresponding requests for reimbursement to the Federal Grantor(s) after payments are processed
  • Performs and/or assists in performing full accounting cycle functions of the agency; including, but not limited to accounts payable, accounts receivable (including deposits), reconciliation/verification of transactions in AZ360 (AFIS - Arizona Financial Information System)
  • Verifies and processes travel reimbursement requests and other miscellaneous reimbursement requests ensuring accuracy and compliance with Federal and State requirements to submit them to payroll for payment
  • Performs other technical and administrative duties in support of financial activities and operations while ensuring accuracy and compliance with all Federal and State requirements
  • Assists in the preparation of financial reports that inform agency management about the fiscal position of various Federal and State programs, funds and accounts
  • Assists and participates in activities related to statewide agency events, conferences, public safety days, news conferences, and any other public engagement activity as needed and directed
  • Receives training and participates in grantor and grantee activities as directed; provides training and guidance regarding Federal and State fiscal requirements to grantees when necessary and as directed
  • Provides assistance and guidance to co-workers and management regarding State and Federal fiscal requirements as needed and directed
  • Other duties as assigned as related to the position
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs)

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of rules and regulations governing public administration and accounting and fiscal principles, methods and guidelines
  • Knowledge of computer software: Google Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, AZ360 (AFIS)

  • Knowledge of the State of Arizona Accounting Manual (SAAM)
