Job summary

Red River Credit Union (RRCU) is seeking an Accounting Specialist in Texarkana, TX to maintain accounting records and support member service functions. Responsibilities include daily bank reconciliations, GL posting, and audits preparation, with opportunities to assist in period-end closes and regulatory reporting.

You will work under the Director of Accounting, ensuring accuracy across ledgers, liquidity reporting, and compliance with policy.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or the equivalent.
• Prior experience in a financial institution or 6 months accounting experience preferred.
• Competent computer skills and use of standard office equipment.

• Must maintain a neat and professional appearance.
• Identified physical requirements include the ability to operate normal office equipment and some lifting, not to exceed 25 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Post general ledger vouchers and close-of-business entries daily.
• Balance shares, loans, and GL accounts; resolve out-of-balance conditions.
• Assist with period-ending adjustments and financial statements.
• Process money orders and MasterCard cash advances; submit weekly liquidity reports.
• Reconcile bonds and maintain GL subsidiary records; resolve outstanding items.

Basic Function

Maintains accounting records for the Credit Union and provides support for the member service functions.

Responsibilities

• Perform bank reconciliations of the Credit Union. Reviews, balances, and records all RRCU teller checks daily.
• Responsible for escheatment of teller checks.
• Stop payments of teller checks.
• Retain records needed for annual audits of examinations.
• Review and post computer-generated daily close-of-business vouchers to general ledger.
• Prepares, researches, and posts all miscellaneous general ledger vouchers daily.
• Balances share and loan statistics, general ledger control accounts, and Federal Reserve Bank cash letter daily; researches and resolves any out-of-balance condition.
• Assist with period-ending adjusting and closing entries and preparation of financial statements.
• Balances and transmits money orders sold and MasterCard cash advance vouchers daily.
• Prepares and submits weekly Regulation D report of liquidity reserves to the Federal Reserve Bank, Dallas.
• Reconciles all bonds received and transmits to Southwest Corporate.
• Maintains manual or PC-based subsidiary records for general ledger accounts for either Credit Union bank accounts, accounts receivable and accounts payable.
• Periodically reconciles subsidiaries to the general ledger control account, researches and resolves outstanding items on a timely basis.
• Balances Federal Reserve Bank cash letter daily, researches and resolves any outages.
• Balances mortgage payments daily.
• Pays RRCU expenses after obtaining appropriate approval for payment.
• Checks invoices to assure accuracy of calculation. Determines proper general ledger classification to charge and branch or vector to allocate the expense.
• Prepares month-end accruals for expenses.
• Maintains records for general ledger accounts for prepaid expenses and fixed assets. Retains records needed for annual audits and examinations.
• Answers telephone inquiries, researches and resolves problems on member accounts as needed.
• Adheres to all Red River Employees Federal Credit Union policies and procedures.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or the equivalent.
• Prior experience in a financial institution or 6 months accounting experience preferred. College-level accounting courses preferred.
