Job summary

The Cam Team, Inc. seeks an HOA Accounting Specialist to manage financial operations for homeowners associations. You will maintain precise ledgers, process AP/AR, and prepare regular financial statements while ensuring compliance with governing documents and laws.

In this role you will support boards, property managers, and auditors, handle billing and collections, and assist with budgets and audits. Monday–Friday in-office environment with integrity and confidentiality.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Associate’s degree in Accounting or related field.
  • Minimum 2 years in accounting; HOA/property management preferred.
  • Knowledge of GAAP and fund accounting.
  • Proficiency with Strongroom, QuickBooks, and Excel.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain general ledger records for assigned HOAs.
  • Process AP/AR, vendor invoices, and homeowner assessments.
  • Reconcile bank, reserve, and investment accounts.
  • Manage special assessments and billing/collections per HOA policies.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements, balance sheets, and income statements.
  • Support budgets, reserve studies, and forecasting; assist audits and tax filings.

Job description

The HOA Accounting Specialist is responsible for managing the financial operations of homeowner's associations, ensuring accurate accounting, compliance with governing documents, and timely financial reporting. This role supports boards of directors, property managers, and external auditors by maintaining precise financial records and handling day-to-day accounting functions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Maintain accurate general ledger records for assigned homeowners associations
  • Process accounts payable and receivable, including vendor invoices and homeowner assessments
  • Reconcile bank accounts, reserve accounts, and investment statements
  • Manage special assessments for associations when needed
  • Prepare monthly financial statements, balance sheets, income statements, and variance reports
  • Manage homeowner billing, collections, late fees, and payment plans in accordance with HOA policies
  • Assist with annual budgets, reserve studies, and financial forecasting
  • Support annual audits, reviews, and tax filings by preparing required documentation
  • Ensure compliance with HOA governing documents, management contracts, and applicable laws
  • Respond to financial inquiries verbally and written from board members, homeowners, and property managers
  • Maintain accurate records in HOA accounting software and document management systems
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (preferred)
  • 2+ years of accounting experience; HOA or property management experience strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of GAAP and fund accounting principles
  • Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., Strongroom, QuickBooks, or similar)
  • Strong Excel skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple associations and deadlines simultaneously
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Skills & Attributes
  • Experience working with boards of directors or community associations
  • Experience with CINC is preferred
  • Familiarity with reserve accounting and assessment structures
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
  • High level of integrity and confidentiality
  • Customer-service mindset when interacting with homeowners
  • In office Monday-Friday
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and reach as needed to perform routine office and administrative duties.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and carry files, office supplies, and other materials weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to use a computer, keyboard, mouse, telephone, calculator, scanner, copier, and other standard office equipment.
