NIIC National Interstate Insurance Company is seeking an Accounting Representative I in Richfield, Ohio, to operate on a hybrid schedule. The role focuses on clerical and accounting tasks, billing support, and customer communications.

Ideal candidates will have a High School Diploma (Associate degree preferred) and strong organizational and communication skills to handle diverse inquiries and collaboration with internal teams.

Responsibilities

• Performs routine and non-routine clerical/accounting tasks following established procedures.
• Provides billing information, account reconciliation, and billing issue resolution to customers.
• Uses billing and policy applications to service customer inquiries of a complex nature.
• Handles inbound and outbound calls; may follow up on delinquent accounts with collections.
• Reconciles payments/receipts with account records and prepares ad hoc reports as needed.
• Maintains compliance with regulations and company policies; may assist other duties as assigned.

National Interstate is looking for an Accounting Representative I to join their team. This individual will work a hybrid schedule out of the Richfield, Ohio office.

National Interstate’s culture is built on connection, shared learning, and strong relationships. To support this, employees in this role are expected to be on-site four days a week, with the flexibility to work one day remotely. Core in-office days are Tuesday–Thursday, with the fourth day determined by business needs.

Essential Job Functions And Responsibilities

• Performs a variety of routine and non-routine clerical/accounting functions, in accordance with procedures.
• Provides billing information, account reconciliation, and billing problem resolution to internal and external customers involving multiple lines of insurance.
• Utilizes working knowledge of multiple billing and/or policy applications and processing procedures to effectively service customer inquiries of a complex nature.
• Requires inbound and outbound phone support. May follow-up on complex delinquent accounts including communication with collection agencies and other entities.
• Reconcile payments/receipts with account information.
• Fosters and builds relationships with other departments and/or outside agencies to resolve problems, using both written and/or verbal communication.
• Prepares account analysis, reviewing the entire relationship across one or more billing systems.
• May gather data to compile reports and/or create ad hoc reports.
• Complies with appropriate regulations and/or company policies and guidelines.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Education

High School Diploma or equivalent. Associate degree or equivalent experience preferred.

Scope of Job/Qualifications

Possesses organizational abilities to manage multiple tasks efficiently. Developing knowledge of relevant state and federal regulations and company policies/guidelines related to insurance accounting. Demonstrates attention to detail, organizational skills, and problem‑solving abilities. Developing interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
