Job summary

Associated Wholesale Grocers, Inc. (AWG) is seeking an Accounting Operations Manager to oversee Accounts Payable, Vendor AR, and Case Dispute Management. You will lead a team, drive process automation, and ensure compliance with internal controls and corporate policies.

You will mentor supervisors, partner with IT to triage issues, and steer timely, on-budget deployments while delivering actionable financial insights to leadership.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related business field.
• Strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
• Excellent organizational skills with the ability to balance and prioritize multiple deadlines.
• Solid knowledge of general accounting practices and experience with PeopleSoft (or equivalent ERP systems).
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Access), with advanced proficiency in Excel.
• Exceptional research and investigative skills with analytic mindset to identify root-cause issues.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, able to present complex information clearly to all levels.
• Demonstrated ability to influence, lead, and manage change thoughtfully and positively.
• Previous experience managing supervisors, team leads, or a multi-tiered team is highly preferred.
• Proven experience in system implementations or software deployments with on-time, on-budget results.
• Ability to relocate regionally for advancement.

Responsibilities

• Oversee and develop supervisors, fostering accountability and growth.
• Provide technical guidance and strategic direction to team leads.
• Set goals, monitor KPIs, and balance workload across sub-departments.
• Identify inefficiencies and implement automated processes to boost efficiency.
• Triaging systemic issues with IT to maintain system health.
• Support corporate initiatives with detailed operational insights and timely deployments.
• Strengthen internal controls and risk mitigation to prevent fraud.
• Lead change-management to modernize tools and software.
• Escalate and resolve complex vendor issues through deep financial research.
• Analyze aging reports, dispute trends, and bottlenecks for leadership insights.
• Provide leadership with financial performance reports related to gross/profit centers.
• Manage competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Collaborate with Procurement, Operations, and Legal to resolve root causes.
