Job summary

The City of Des Peres is seeking an Accounting Manager to oversee daily accounting operations, including payroll, accounts payable, cash receipting, and general ledger maintenance. You will supervise two accountants, assist the Director of Finance with audits and budget preparation, and strengthen internal controls.

A bachelor’s degree in accounting and at least three years of progressively responsible financial management experience are required. CPA is desired but not required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting required.
• Minimum 3 years of progressively responsible financial management experience.
• Supervision experience preferred.
• Experience in government accounting is a plus.
• CPA designation desired but not required.

Responsibilities

• Supervise accounting staff responsible for payroll, accounts payable, cash receipting, and GL maintenance.
• Oversee payroll processes and tax filings.
• Review daily cash and transactions; ensure GL accuracy.
• Manage journal entries, bank reconciliations, and internal controls.
• Assist Director of Finance with audit preparation and annual budgeting.
• Coordinate annual Workers’ Compensation Audit and other financial audits.
• Assist with month-end and year-end close and reporting.
