Job summary

Markon is seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to oversee monthly close, financial reporting, technical accounting, and compliance within a growing government contracting organization. This hands-on leader will maintain accurate records and ensure US GAAP and contract regulations are met.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. An additional 10 years of directly related accounting experience may be substituted in lieu of a degree.
• US Citizenship required
• 5-8 years of progressive accounting experience, including government contracting
• Experience mentoring staff or leading accounting teams
• Strong knowledge of US GAAP and government contract accounting
• 2+ years with Deltek Costpoint or similar ERP
• Advanced Excel and financial analysis skills
• Collaborates across Finance, Contracts, Pricing and HR

Responsibilities

• Lead monthly, quarterly, and year-end close activities for accurate financial reporting.
• Prepare and review journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and analyses.
• Maintain GL integrity across multiple legal entities.
• Research reconciling items and fluctuations in financial statements.
• Support monthly management reports, lender reporting, and executive dashboards.
• Collaborate with Billing/AR to resolve discrepancies and receivables.
• Handle payroll accounting, including liabilities, taxes, PTO, bonuses, and benefits.
• Coordinate intercompany reconciliations and consolidations.
• Support acquisition integrations with consistent accounting policies and reporting.
• Ensure compliance with US GAAP, FAR, CAS, DCAA requirements.
• Assist with audits, incurred cost submissions, and regulatory reporting.
• Partner with Contracts, Pricing, Program Finance, and Billing on revenue recognition and project accounting.
• Research technical accounting issues and implement new standards.
• Lead process improvements, strengthen internal controls, and drive ERP enhancements.
