Job summary

MPD Electric Cooperative seeks an Accounting Manager to lead day-to-day accounting and financial reporting. This role ensures GAAP compliance, coordinates multi-entity reporting, and supports sound financial decisions across the organization.

The successful candidate will manage general ledger operations, monthly close, budgets, audits, and staff development, while providing technical accounting expertise for patronage-based and traditional for-profit functions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• Progressively responsible accounting experience.
• Strong knowledge of financial reporting, budgeting, and accounting principles.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
• Advanced proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Excel.

Responsibilities

• Manage daily accounting operations, including the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and month-end/year-end close.
• Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
• Ensure compliance with GAAP, RUS regulations, and all applicable federal and state requirements.
• Administer cooperative patronage capital accounting and allocations.
• Coordinate tax reporting and filings for corporate and partnership entities.
• Prepare budgets, forecasts, and financial analyses to support executive leadership.
• Oversee financial consolidations for parent and subsidiary organizations.
• Coordinate annual audits and serve as the primary contact for external auditors.
• Develop and improve accounting policies, internal controls, and financial procedures.
• Supervise and mentor accounting staff while promoting accuracy, efficiency, and continuous improvement.
