Job summary

The Episcopal Diocese of Texas is seeking a General Accounting Manager to partner with the Controller in overseeing the diocese's accounting ledger, subledgers, and the accounting for four affiliated foundations. This role ensures accurate financial reporting and strong internal controls.

You will manage monthly closings, oversee journal entries, payroll, budgeting, and audits, while leading a small team and supporting churches with accounting and tax questions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
• CPA certification or in progress.
• 2–4 years of experience in financial statement prep, budgeting, forecasting, AR/AP.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and regulatory interpretation.
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
• Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills; maintains confidentiality.
• Excellent organizational skills; capable of multi-tasking under deadlines.
• Proficiency in Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Responsibilities

• Manage the monthly close cycle and prepare timely financial statements.
• Create and review journal entries, payables, and receivables for all entities.
• Analyze financial statements to explain variances and identify unusual trends.
• Maintain the general ledger structure and coordinate the budget process.
• Distribute financial reports on investment activity and performance.
• Process payroll and benefits payments for assigned entities.
• Support cash management, AR, safeguarding of assets, and disbursements.
• Lead and train accounting team to improve efficiency.
• Assist churches with accounting or tax questions.
• Engage with external auditors to support the audit process and audited statements.
• Collaborate with other teams to support the diocese's vision.
• Take on additional duties as assigned.
