Margin CFO and Bookkeeping provides outsourced Accounting, Controller, and CFO services for small businesses and startups to augment their operations and help them manage and grow their businesses. Margin is seeking a full-time Accounting Manager who will play a critical role in leading a portfolio of client accounts, managing day-to-day accounting operations, while overseeing a team of accounting professionals and managing client relationships. This role combines hands-on accounting with strategic advisory services and is ideal for someone who thrives in a collaborative, client-facing environment, who enjoys full-cycle accounting and loves to get in the weeds to clean and optimize processes.

This position is fully remote, but must be a US citizen and based in the US.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's and/or Master’s degree in Accounting is required
• CPA license or licensing in-process is required
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 1-2 years in a supervisory or management capacity, is required
• Experience in an outsourced accounting environment, public accounting firm, and/or client services role preferred
• Exceptional interpersonal skills with a proven ability to build trust and long-term relationships with clients and teammates
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to translate complex financial concepts into clear, actionable language for non-finance audiences
• Comfortable leading client meetings and providing financial updates with confidence and clarity, going beyond the numbers to provide strategic insight and practical guidance
• Solid understanding of GAAP
• Highly proficient and knowledgeable with Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets
• Proficient and knowledgeable with QuickBooks Online preferred
• Tech-savvy with the ability to learn and adopt new tools quickly
• Resourceful and comfortable with the unknown - not afraid of messy books and/or broken processes
• Self-starter who genuinely enjoys accounting and has a deep desire to build and enhance things
• Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage the work necessary for a portfolio of client accounts simultaneously
• Comfortable in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment, with the ability to meet deadlines under pressure

Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To

• Serve as the primary point of contact for a portfolio of clients, providing strategic insight and practical guidance on financial performance and operational efficiency
• Oversee monthly accounting close processes and ensure accuracy and efficiency in all client work, including income/expense categorization, recording accruals, reconciling accounts, performing variance analysis, compiling monthly financial statements, presenting monthly financial results to clients, etc.
• Ensure compliance with GAAP and client-specific accounting policies and procedures
• Identify, develop, implement, and monitor strategies and systems to streamline accounting processes, improve efficiency, and enhance internal controls
• Liaise with tax professionals, auditors, and external vendors as needed on behalf of clients
• Provide leadership and mentorship to Accounting professionals, ensuring professional development and adherence to best practices
