Job description

Stellar Bookkeeping Solutions·W-2·Fully remote (US)·$35–$40/hour

15–25 hours/week·Core hours 10:00 AM–2:00 PM Central, with some flexibility

You notice the small inconsistency before anyone else does. The miscategorized transaction. The payroll detail that becomes a problem three months from now. The reconciliation that balances but doesn’t actually make sense. It’s just how you’re wired.

You’re an experienced bookkeeper who loves the people side of this work as much as the numbers. Clients feel at ease with you, teammates come to you when they’re stuck, and you take ownership without being asked. You’re not looking for just another job. You’re looking for somewhere to plant roots.

The role

We’re a growing bookkeeping firm, and our bookkeepers handle the day-to-day work. We’re hiring an Accounting Manager to make sure it’s right: own quality review, handle the complex work that needs a more experienced eye, develop our bookkeeping team, and grow into leading client relationships. You’ll report directly to the founder and stay hands‑on with a couple of client files of your own.

What you’ll do
  • Review every month-end close and full-cycle file across about 25 to 30 clients, in a range of industries, before it reaches a client
  • Handle the complex work: messy reconciliations and cleanups, trickier sales tax and payroll, bill pay, and multi-entity books
  • Flag work that turns out bigger than expected, so we scope it together instead of you absorbing it
  • Coach through feedback: tell the bookkeeper what was off and why, focused on the fix, never the blame
  • Be the first stop for questions from our bookkeepers during core hours
  • Track deadlines, spot issues while they’re small, and bring the founder a recommended solution, not just the problem
  • Turn each lesson into an SOP the whole team can follow
  • Share your evaluation of team performance with the founder to make compensation decisions together
  • Keep our remote team connected: check in, make room for real conversation, celebrate wins, and bring ideas that make work fun
Your own client work
  • Carry a couple of client files of your own. This is intentional: staying hands‑on keeps you learning what’s changing and what could be better, which makes you a stronger coach and leader
How the role grows
  • First 30 days: Learn our clients, systems, and SOPs. Review alongside the founder and take on a couple of client files
  • By 90 days: Quality review is yours. Bookkeepers bring their questions to you first, you track deadlines across the roster, and you work with the founder to improve the SOPs that don’t hold up
  • By 6 to 12 months: You work side by side with the founder, who trusts your review completely. The team makes fewer repeat mistakes because of your feedback, and you start communicating directly with clients
  • Beyond: Lead client calls and financial reviews, record Loom walkthroughs, and become the steady point of contact clients rely on. That comes with more hours and higher pay, with a bit more structure to your schedule, while still fitting a real life

We promote based on demonstrated ownership, not tenure.

How we work

We trade in accuracy. It’s the actual product we sell. A sloppy file is a broken promise to a client, so we hold a real standard, and we hold it proudly.

Mistakes are how we get better. Everyone makes them, and we’d rather talk about them openly than hide them. What matters is getting curious about the root cause, fixing it, and putting something in place so it doesn’t happen again.

Flexible, but never alone. Within core hours the team can reach you, and the rest of your schedule is yours to arrange. Doctor’s appointment or school event? Move your hours and let us know. You’ll run team meetings, check in regularly with the founder, and work closely with the bookkeepers. We love independence and initiative, and we’ll trust your judgment.

What you bring
  • QuickBooks Online expertise. It’s the only accounting platform we touch. You know it cold and can catch and troubleshoot mistakes on your own
  • Full-cycle bookkeeping experience. Reconciliations, month-end close, sales tax, payroll, and 1099s
  • Review or coaching experience. Formally as a lead or senior, or as the go‑to person when something didn’t tie out
  • Typically 5+ years in bookkeeping or accounting. Ideally with some of that time in a senior or lead role
  • US-based and authorized to work in the US, with reliable internet and a quiet home workspace

This is not an entry-level role. We need someone who can step in with confidence and protect the client experience from day one.

Nice to have: experience at a bookkeeping or accounting firm, QBO certification, and Spanish fluency.

Tools we use

You don’t need to know every one on day one. We’ll show you how we use them.

What we offer
  • $35 to $40/hour to start, increasing as the role grows
  • Eligibility for our semi-annual performance bonus
  • Paid time off plus paid company holidays
  • Paid learning hours and certifications
  • Flexible hours within our core window
  • A clear path to client leadership, based on ownership, not tenure

Marcela Stellmach founded Stellar Bookkeeping Solutions in 2020 to build something more modern, personal, and supportive than the traditional bookkeeping firm. We help business owners feel confident about their numbers so they can grow, and we bring that same care to our own team.

Personal, never transactional. Clients aren’t ticket numbers here, and neither is our team.

Respect goes both ways. We treat our clients the way they want to be treated, and we work with clients who treat our team the same way.

A team without borders. Our team spans several countries, and we’re better for it. This role is US-based.

Build it better. If a process is clunky, we’d rather you say so and help us fix it. That’s not overstepping; that’s the job.

Stellar Bookkeeping Solutions is an equal opportunity employer. We welcome applicants of all backgrounds and do not discriminate on the basis of any legally protected characteristic.
