Job summary

Evlo AI in San Francisco is seeking a Controller to own the monthly close, technical accounting, and internal controls, including revenue recognition under ASC 606, equity compensation under ASC 718, and lease accounting under ASC 842.

You will manage a small team of 2–4 accountants, partner with FP&A and engineering on systems and accruals, and ensure the company remains SOX-compliant and audit-ready as it scales toward potential public-company readiness.

Qualifications

• 5-8 years of combined public accounting and industry experience.
• Active CPA license and deep working knowledge of US GAAP and SOX.
• Experience with ERP/close-management systems (NetSuite, FloQast, BlackLine).
• Ability to draft clear accounting memos for auditors and executives.
• Experience managing people or owning a close area end-to-end.

Responsibilities

• Own the month-end and quarter-end close with a 5-day close window.
• Apply technical accounting to revenue recognition, equity compensation, and software capitalization.
• Design, document, and test SOX internal controls over financial reporting.
• Manage the annual external audit and quarterly reviews.
• Supervise and develop a team of 2-4 staff accountants.
• Drive automation and tooling improvements across the close (NetSuite, FloQast, BlackLine).
• Prepare accounting memos and support SEC-style reporting as the company grows.

About The Role

The role owns the monthly close, technical accounting, and internal-controls function for a fast-growing technology company - including revenue recognition under ASC 606, stock-based compensation under ASC 718, and lease accounting under ASC 842.

You will manage a small team of accountants, partner with FP&A and engineering on systems and accruals, and ensure the company remains SOX-compliant and audit-ready as it scales toward potential public-company readiness.

Key Responsibilities

• Own the month-end and quarter-end close, delivering accurate GAAP financial statements within a 5-day close window
• Apply technical accounting to complex areas including revenue recognition (ASC 606), equity compensation, and capitalized software costs
• Design, document, and test SOX internal controls over financial reporting; remediate deficiencies with process owners
• Manage the annual external audit and quarterly reviews with the firm's independent auditors
• Supervise and develop a team of 2-4 staff accountants, reviewing reconciliations, journal entries, and flux analyses
• Drive automation and tooling improvements across the close (NetSuite, FloQast, BlackLine, or similar)
• Prepare technical accounting memos and support SEC-style reporting as the company matures

What We Are Looking For

• 5-8 years of combined public accounting and industry experience; Big 4 or national firm background preferred
• Active CPA license and deep working knowledge of US GAAP, SOX 404, and ASC 606/718/842
• Hands-on experience with ERP and close-management systems (NetSuite, SAP, FloQast, or BlackLine)
• Demonstrated experience managing people or owning a functional close area end-to-end
• Strong technical writing - able to draft clear accounting memos for auditors and executives
• Comfortable operating in ambiguity and building processes from scratch in a scaling environment
• Bonus: SaaS or technology industry experience, IPO-readiness exposure, or SEC reporting experience
