Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Lead full month-end close, journal entries, reconciliations, and flux analysis.
• Maintain general ledger, chart of accounts, and reporting segments.
• Oversee fixed assets, construction-in-progress, capitalization policy, depreciation.
• Document technical accounting positions for audits (ASC 718, 842, 606).
• Produce internal leadership/investor reporting; support year-end with auditors.
• Design/update accounting policies, controls, and process narratives.
• Lead or support finance systems implementations and automation projects.
• Hire, manage, mentor accounting team and partner with non-finance groups.

Job description

Alliance Resource Group is partnered with a venture-backed, high-growth hard tech company designing and building first-of-its-kind physical infrastructure. The business is scaling quickly toward commercial deployment, and the accounting function needs a hands-on leader to build it out. This Senior Manager will own the close, the general ledger, and the control environment while hiring and developing the team that runs them. The role stays close to the detail, handling complex close items and technical positions directly, and works alongside Finance, Operations, Systems, and other groups to connect the numbers to what is happening across the business.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Run the full month-end close, preparing and reviewing journal entries, account reconciliations, and flux analysis so financials land accurately and on schedule.
• Maintain and evolve the general ledger, chart of accounts, and reporting segments as the business grows in complexity.
• Manage fixed assets and construction-in-progress, including capitalization policy, project cost tracking, depreciation, and the judgment between R&D expense and capitalizable spend.
• Research and document technical accounting positions in auditor-ready memos, covering areas such as stock compensation (ASC 718), leases (ASC 842), revenue recognition (ASC 606), and capitalization.
• Produce internal reporting packages for leadership and investors, and support year-end financial statement preparation with external auditors and tax advisors.
• Design and maintain accounting policies, internal controls, desktop procedures, and process narratives that keep the company audit-ready.
• Lead or support implementation and expansion of finance systems, including ERP, AP automation, and expense management, and identify opportunities to automate manual workflows.
• Hire, manage, and mentor the accounting team, shape roles and structure as the function grows, and serve as the go-to accounting resource for non-finance partners.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Required Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• 8+ years of accounting experience with direct ownership of the month-end close and financial reporting.
• 3+ years of direct people management, including assigning and reviewing work and developing accountants.
• Track record of building or scaling an accounting function, standing up processes, controls, and team structure where little existed.
• Strong command of US GAAP.
• Hands-on fixed asset and capitalization experience in a capital-intensive, hardware, or manufacturing environment, with the ability to research and document technical positions independently.
• Startup, high-growth, or comparably fast-paced experience.
• Comfortable with ambiguity, highly organized, and an effective communicator across functions.
• Preferred CPA license.
• ERP or finance systems implementation experience.
• Cost accounting exposure in a manufacturing or inventory-heavy environment.
• Venture-backed company experience and familiarity with investor reporting.
• Public accounting background (Big 4 or regional firm).
• Experiment preparing for or supporting external audits.
