Job summary

Vaco by Highspring is seeking an experienced Accounting Manager in the East Dallas area to lead a mid-market benefits accounting team. The role emphasizes reconciliations, complex month‑end closes, and driving process improvements.

The ideal candidate will be hands‑on, data‑savvy, with experience in payroll data, benefit deductions, and high‑volume reconciliations, ready to mentor staff and partner with Benefits and Payroll teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with supervisory experience preferred.
  • Strong understanding of general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, and month‑end close processes.
  • Experience with benefits, payroll accounting, insurance, healthcare, or other high‑volume transaction environments strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the accounting and reconciliation processes related to employee benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life, disability, and other benefit programs.
  • Reconcile employee benefit deductions, carrier invoices, cash activity, and general ledger accounts on a regular basis.
  • Investigate and resolve discrepancies between payroll deductions, benefit elections, carrier billing, client funding, and accounting records.
  • Review and maintain accurate benefit‑related balance sheet accounts, accruals, prepaid expenses, and liabilities.
  • Partner with the Benefits and Payroll teams to identify and resolve billing, enrollment, deduction, and funding discrepancies.
  • Develop and maintain reconciliation schedules and supporting documentation to ensure accuracy and auditability.
  • Analyze benefit‑related activity by client, employee population, carrier, and benefit type as needed.
  • Assist with the month‑end close process, including journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, and variance analysis.
  • Monitor outstanding reconciling items and drive timely resolution with internal teams and external benefit providers.
  • Help improve processes, controls, and systems surrounding benefits accounting and reconciliation.
  • Identify opportunities to automate manual reconciliation processes and improve reporting accuracy.
  • Support internal and external audits by providing schedules, documentation, and explanations of benefit‑related accounts.
  • Prepare financial analysis and reporting for management related to benefits activity and reconciliation trends.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to accounting staff as appropriate.

Job description

One of Vaco's midmarket clients in the East Dallas area has given us the exclusive search to onboard an Accounting Manager. Looking for folks that have managed midsized teams and been directly involved in complex accounting environments that have included process improvement projects and cleaning up the Balance Sheet.

The ideal candidate will be a hands‑on accounting professional who enjoys digging into the numbers and figuring out why things don't reconcile. Experience working with benefit deductions, carrier billing, payroll data, or other high-volume reconciliations will be particularly valuable. Looking for data‑savvy Accountants who enjoy navigating large sets of information in Excel‑driven environments.

We've essentially helped rebuild the accounting team (placed 10+ people out there) from scratch and have received great feedback on company culture and leadership!

Key Responsibilities
