About Us: Babylon Micro-Farms is changing the future of farming with its environmentally friendly, software-enabled hydroponic farms. We serve commercial dining operators nationwide, from universities to hospitals to senior living communities, providing them with access to 40+ crops, top-notch training/support, and a mobile app to help them grow fresh, nutritious produce on-site. Babylon is a high-growth company based in the Scott’s Addition neighborhood of Richmond, VA.
Position Overview: We are seeking a detail-oriented and Accounting Manager to manage and oversee all aspects of financial reporting, treasury, accounts payable and receivable, and operational KPI dashboards. The Accounting Manager will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial statements, compliance with accounting standards, support operations, and help optimize financial processes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Financial Reporting: Assist in the preparation and review of financial statements, ensuring compliance with GAAP and other regulatory requirements. Generate accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
- Accounting preparation: Oversee and maintain the general ledger, including the preparation and review of journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and adjustments. Ensure timely and accurate recording of transactions.
- Enhance and Oversee the Accounting close process: Implement procedures to enhance the existing close process and ensure a tighter close timeframe to ensure more accurate data is provided to stakeholders.
- Account reconciliation: Perform detailed account reconciliations and resolve discrepancies. Ensure timely and accurate reconciliation of all Balance Sheet accounts.
- Tax Support: Assist with tax preparation by providing necessary documentation and explanations to our external tax preparers. Ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
- Budgeting and Forecasting: Assist in the roll out of budgets and maintain financial forecasts (Budgets have been prepared and are ready for roll out). Analyze financial performance against budgets and provide actionable insights.
- Financial analysis: Conduct financial analysis to support decision-making processes. Provide insights into financial performance and identify areas for improvement.
- Compliance: Ensure compliance with tax regulations and other statutory requirements by completing a monthly / quarterly sales tax nexus analysis, and ensuring the company is up to date on all relevant licenses and taxes (state sales tax, property tax, franchise tax, business license, etc…). Remit sales tax to the state of Virginia monthly by the 20 th of each month.
- Process Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvements within the finance department and implement best practices to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
- Special Projects: Participate in special projects and initiatives as assigned by the CTO and CEO, including system upgrades and process redesigns.
- Direct Reports – Finance & Accounting & HR: You will have one senior financial analyst reporting to you who completes the block and tackle day to day accounting procedures, as well as invoicing, and financial analysis, and the Executive Assistant who handles HR and sales order forms.
- KPI Dashboard: Maintain and update the KPI Dashboard used by management to analyze business trends. Develop additional KPI’s and routinely run & report on KPI’s to analyze company margins, AR Turnover, inventory turnover, and other key company metrics.
Additional responsibilities:
- Handles and processes all of the businesses payments twice a month. Ensures bank accounts have correct balance based on cash flow forecast.
- Monitor and pay quarterly and monthly rebates to MSA partners.
- Drive business performance through financial driven initiatives.
- Hire for any positions in your reporting structure.
- Provide feedback on internal pricing sheets for each product, as needed
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA certification recommended but not required.
- Experience: Minimum of 4+ years of experience in accounting or finance, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite, or Business Central) and advanced Excel skills. Familiarity with financial reporting and analysis tools.
- Babylon uses Microsoft Dynamics Business Central
- Knowledge: Strong understanding of GAAP, financial regulations, and internal control frameworks.
- Soft Skills: Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Strong attention to detail and accuracy. Effective communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities and work under pressure.
- Other: Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment. High level of integrity and professionalism.
