Job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, which manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Associate Accountant based in the United States.

As a Senior Associate Accountant, you will play a key role in maintaining accurate financial records and supporting the financial operations of a growing clean energy development business.

You will oversee accounting activities across corporate entities, holding companies, and more than 30 project-level entities.

Your responsibilities will span month-end close, project accounting, financial reporting, audits, tax compliance, and intercompany transactions.

Working in a dynamic, remote-first environment, you will collaborate with finance leaders and cross-functional teams to strengthen financial controls and improve accounting processes.

You will contribute to the financial transparency and operational efficiency needed to support the development of utility-scale and distributed energy projects across the United States.

This opportunity is ideal for an analytical, detail-oriented accounting professional who enjoys taking ownership, solving complex problems, and contributing to the growth of the clean energy industry.

Accountabilities
  • Month-End and Quarterly Close: Manage key components of the monthly and quarterly closing processes across corporate and project entities, including journal entries, accruals, account reconciliations, intercompany transactions, fixed assets, and construction-in-progress schedules.
  • Development and Project Accounting: Track capitalized development costs by project, apply capitalization policies, account for interconnection deposits and security, and support project write-offs and sales.
  • Multi-Entity and Partnership Accounting: Maintain accurate books and records across holding companies and project entities, including joint ventures, partnerships, capital contributions and distributions, intercompany allocations, and management fee billings.
  • Financial Reporting and Analysis: Prepare financial statements, budget-to-actual analyses, and supporting schedules for investor reporting, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and timely delivery.
  • Audit, Tax, and Regulatory Compliance: Prepare schedules and documentation for annual financial statement audits and collaborate with external tax advisors on partnership tax returns, Schedule K-1s, Forms 1099, and state and local tax filings.
  • Accounts Payable and Internal Controls: Manage and improve accounts payable workflows, including vendor onboarding, invoice coding, approval processes, and general ledger integrations. Strengthen internal controls and accounting procedures as the organization grows.
  • Accounting Systems and Process Improvement: Support the optimization, configuration, and integration of cloud-based accounting platforms and financial tools. Identify opportunities to automate workflows, improve reporting, and increase operational efficiency.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with finance leadership and other teams to address accounting questions, support business decisions, and maintain consistent financial practices across multiple entities.
  • Continuous Improvement: Adapt to evolving business needs, take ownership of new responsibilities, and contribute to building scalable accounting processes in a fast-growing clean energy environment.
Requirements
  • Professional Experience: At least 4 years of accounting experience, including public accounting and/or accounting experience in the energy, real estate, or infrastructure sectors.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field.
  • Technical Accounting Knowledge: Strong working knowledge of U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), including ASC 360 (Property, Plant, and Equipment), ASC 842 (Leases), and ASC 810 (Consolidation).
  • Multi-Entity Accounting: Demonstrated experience managing month-end close activities across multiple legal entities, including intercompany accounting, reconciliations, and consolidations.
  • Accounting Systems: Experience with cloud-based accounting platforms such as QuickBooks Online, Sage Intacct, or NetSuite, along with advanced Excel skills.
  • Accounts Payable Expertise: Proficiency with accounts payable systems such as Bill.com, Ramp, or Tipalti, including configuring approval workflows, onboarding vendors, coding expenses to entities and projects, and integrating transactions with the general ledger.
  • Analytical and Organizational Skills: Exceptional attention to detail, strong analytical capabilities, and the ability to manage competing priorities while meeting strict closing and reporting deadlines.
  • Problem-Solving Ability: A curious, proactive mindset with the ability to investigate unfamiliar issues, develop practical solutions, and continuously improve financial processes.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Strong interpersonal skills, emotional intelligence, and a respectful, team-oriented approach when working across departments and with external partners.
  • Adaptability and Ownership: A self-starter who thrives in an entrepreneurial, fast-paced environment and can work independently while contributing to shared objectives.
  • Industry Motivation: Genuine interest in clean energy development and the financial operations that support sustainable infrastructure projects.
  • Travel Availability: Ability to travel up to 10% of the time for in-person team summits.
Preferred Qualifications
