Job description

The Cohen Camps is a family of three Jewish overnight summer camps, Pembroke, Tel Noar, and Tevya, with a rich history dating back to 1935.

The Cohen Camps operates with an annual budget of $10 million, enrolls 1,000 campers, employs 450 seasonal staff, and serves a vibrant alumni community spanning generations. Each summer, we provide transformative camp experiences by creating thriving communities grounded in Jewish values, connection, and belonging. The Accounting Manager will join a collaborative team of 14 highly motivated year-round professionals and play a key role in ensuring the financial health and sustainability of the organization.

This position is based in our Cohen Camps year-round office in Wellesley, MA. This is a hybrid position, with flexibility for some remote work; however, the role is primarily in person, as collaboration and relationship-building are central to our work. Camp Pembroke is an all-girls camp located in Pembroke, MA; Camp Tel Noar is a co-ed camp in Hampstead, NH; and Camp Tevya is a co-ed camp in Brookline, NH.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage daily accounting functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger
  • Maintain accurate financial records in accordance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards
  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
  • Ensure proper recording and tracking of restricted and unrestricted funds
  • Reconcile bank accounts and balance sheet accounts
  • Prepare new hire packages and benefits administration as needed
  • Track credit card expenditures daily
  • Collaborate with other year-round and summer staff
Budgeting & Financial Reporting
  • Monitor budget and forecast to actual performance and investigate and document variances
  • Assist in preparing financial reports for senior leadership, program staff, and the Board of Directors
Grants & Compliance
  • Track grant and donation revenue, expenses, and reporting requirements
  • Ensure compliance with grant agreements, donor restrictions, and applicable regulations
  • Support preparation of grant financial reports and reimbursements
  • Assist with Form 990 preparation and other regulatory filings
Audit & Internal Controls
  • Coordinate annual audit and serve as primary liaison with external auditors
  • Maintain and strengthen internal controls and accounting policies
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local financial regulations
  • Support implementation and documentation of financial procedures
Time Commitment
  • Working extra hours June through August is part of this position, as the camps are in session and it is much busier than other times of the year
Compensation

Salary range: $90,000-$97,000 annually, commensurate with experience. Generous PTO, comprehensive health and dental insurance package, 403(b) plan, reduced summer day or overnight camp tuition for eligible children.
