We are seeking an Accounting Manager to join our Accounting & Finance Team reporting to the Vice President of Finance & Accounting. This role will oversee the day-to-day operations of the AP function, with a primary focus on inventory accounting, accounts payable, lease accounting, audit support, and the financial close process. This role also plays a key part in process improvement initiatives, system enhancements, AI implementation and strengthening internal controls to support the Company’s continued growth while contributing to a collaborative, high-performing, and values-driven workplace.
This position is primarily based in our Brooklyn office and follows a hybrid schedule.
About the Job
Essential Functions
- Assist in managing the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close process, including review of journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
- Ensure accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of financial reporting deliverables and support preparation of financial reports and analysis for management.
- Manage and oversee inventory accounting, including reconciliations, reserves, aging, excess and obsolescence analysis.
- Analyze inventory trends and variances and ensure inventory accounting complies with applicable accounting standards and company policies.
- Oversee the Accounts Payable function to ensure timely and accurate invoice processing and payments.
- Oversee lease accounting and ensure compliance with applicable accounting guidance.
- Support annual financial statement and state audits, including preparation of audit schedules, responding to audit requests, and assisting with internal controls and accounting policy documentation.
- Lead AI Initiatives for the Accounting and Finance function.
- Identify and implement process improvements to strengthen internal controls, improve reporting efficiency, and reduce manual processes.
- Assist in developing accounting policies and procedures and support system implementations, upgrades, and automation initiatives.
- Assist in overseeing the daily workflow and performance of the accounting team, including Accounts Payable and lease accounting.
- Review work prepared by team members, provide training and guidance, and assist in prioritizing workloads and meeting deadlines.
- Support employee development, cross-training, documentation, and process improvement initiatives.
- Participate in cross-functional meetings to support business initiatives and financial reporting needs.
- Assist with special projects, financial analysis, and reporting as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned based on business needs.

Skills & Requirements
- Minimum 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in retail or inventory-based environments.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
- Strong knowledge of inventory accounting and financial close processes.
- Experience overseeing Accounts Payable and/or staff preferred.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills required.
- Experience with ERP/accounting systems such as Microsoft Great Plains or similar systems.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Demonstrated ability to identify process improvement opportunities and implement solutions.
- Prior experience in a supervisory or lead role preferred.
