Job summary

Vaco in Los Angeles is seeking a Senior Accountant / Accounting Supervisor to own the month-end close, analyze cash flow, manage tax filings, and improve accounting processes within a growing, collaborative team.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years of accounting, solid GL and close experience, NetSuite preferred, and the ability to mentor staff. This hybrid role offers 3–4 days onsite in West Los Angeles and a path for professional growth.

  • Strong general ledger and month-end close knowledge.
  • Experience with sales tax, 1099s and license compliance.
  • Experience mentoring accounting staff including AP/AR.
  • Proficiency in Excel and ERP systems; NetSuite preferred.

  • Own month-end close across multiple entities with timely accuracy.
  • Prepare balance sheet reconciliations and management reports.
  • Manage AP/AR processes and mentor staff.
  • Monitor cash flow and perform forecasting and variance analysis.

Job description

A growing, design-focused consumer brand is seeking a Senior Accountant / Accounting Supervisor to join its Los Angeles team. This is a hands-on opportunity for an accounting professional who enjoys owning the month-end close, analyzing cash flow, managing compliance and tax filings, and improving accounting processes in a growing, collaborative environment.

The ideal candidate will bring strong technical accounting fundamentals, excellent analytical skills, and a proactive mindset. This person will work closely with leadership and cross-functional teams while overseeing an AP/AR professional and helping build scalable processes and reporting infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities
Accounting & Month-End Close
  • Own and execute timely and accurate month-end close activities across multiple entities.
  • Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations and ensure the accuracy and integrity of the general ledger.
  • Prepare monthly financial packages and internal management reports.
  • Partner with AP and AR to ensure accurate and timely transaction processing.
  • Monitor sales and accounts receivable activity and identify potential collection or bad-debt issues.
  • Oversee and support the AP/AR function, including developing and mentoring a direct report.
  • Maintain and improve accounting procedures, controls, process documentation, and department manuals.
Cash Flow & Financial Analysis
  • Closely monitor cash flow and prepare accurate cash flow forecasts.
  • Analyze financial results, trends, and key business drivers to support management decision-making.
  • Prepare budget-to-actual reporting and provide meaningful commentary and variance analysis.
  • Develop and maintain reporting and analytical tools to improve visibility into business performance.
  • Partner with department leaders on financial and operational projects.
Tax & Compliance
  • Manage sales tax filings and compliance across multiple states, including coordination with third-party tax platforms.
  • Monitor state registration and resale licensing requirements and coordinate new registrations as needed.
  • Manage annual 1099 reporting requirements.
  • Serve as a key point of contact with external tax advisors for annual tax returns and related requests.
  • Coordinate annual business license and state-level compliance renewals.
  • Support accounting and compliance activities across multiple related entities.
Systems & Process Improvement
  • Leverage the company's ERP system to improve accounting efficiency, reporting, and controls.
  • Identify opportunities for automation, process optimization, and improved use of financial data.
  • Participate in initiatives involving analytics, technology, and emerging tools, including AI.
  • Create scalable processes that can support continued domestic and international growth.
What We're Looking For
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with experience at the Senior Accountant or Accounting Manager level.
  • Strong understanding of general ledger accounting and month-end close.
  • Experience with cash flow analysis and forecasting.
  • Experience with sales tax, 1099s, business licenses, and/or other tax compliance activities.
  • Experience working with inventory and understanding the relationship between the product lifecycle and financial transactions.
  • Experience overseeing or mentoring accounting staff, particularly AP/AR.
  • Strong Excel skills and comfort working with large amounts of financial data.
  • Experience with an ERP system required; NetSuite experience is highly preferred.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to independently research issues, develop solutions, and communicate recommendations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Comfortable working in a growing environment where priorities can evolve.
  • Experience working with international teams or global time zones is a plus.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
