Job summary

Six Degrees North Beverage Group is seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to own day-to-day bookkeeping, close processes, and strengthen financial controls as the company grows. You will work closely with leadership to ensure accurate reporting and compliant practices.

This role, with a retirement-impending Controller, offers a clear path to Controller; you will learn the business, manage payroll, tax filings, and collaborate across departments to optimize inventory and cost of goods sold.

Qualifications

• Three or more years of progressive bookkeeping or accounting experience.
• Strong QuickBooks Online and Excel skills.
• Experience managing month-end close, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
• Solid understanding of accrual accounting, the general ledger, and financial statements.
• Ability to investigate discrepancies and maintain confidential financial information.

Responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day bookkeeping and maintain financial records in QuickBooks Online.
• Oversee accounts payable, including vendor invoices and payment scheduling.
• Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and general ledger accounts.
• Prepare journal entries and supporting schedules for accruals, prepaid expenses, and fixed assets.
• Lead month-end and year-end close activities and ensure timely reporting.
• Prepare financial statements and reports for leadership to understand performance.
• Monitor cash flow and working capital needs.
• Collaborate with accounts receivable to reconcile customer balances and payments.
• Coordinate payroll accounting and assist with tax filings and compliance.
• Work with outside accounting professionals on tax preparation and year-end needs.

We’re seeking an experienced, detail-oriented Accounting Manager who can take ownership of daily accounting, strengthen financial processes, and grow with our business.

The Opportunity

With our current Controller retiring soon, this position offers a near-term opportunity to advance into the Controller role based on experience, performance, and readiness. You will work closely with our Controller during the transition to learn our business, assume key accounting responsibilities, and prepare for broader financial leadership.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day bookkeeping and maintain accurate, complete financial records in QuickBooks Online.
• Oversee accounts payable, including vendor invoices, payment scheduling, and resolving discrepancies.
• Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and general ledger accounts.
• Prepare journal entries and maintain supporting schedules for accruals, prepaid expenses, and fixed assets.
• Lead month-end and year-end close activities, ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
• Prepare financial statements and reports that help leadership understand business performance.
• Monitor cash flow, upcoming obligations, and working capital needs.
• Partner with our dedicated accounts receivable team member to ensure customer balances, payments, and related accounts reconcile accurately.
• Collaborate with operations to reconcile inventory activity, investigate discrepancies, and support accurate inventory valuation and cost of goods sold.
• Coordinate payroll accounting and support applicable sales tax filings and other routine compliance requirements.
• Work with our outside accounting professionals on tax preparation, year-end needs, and financial documentation.
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting workflows, internal controls, and system accuracy.
• Document key processes and progressively assume Controller responsibilities throughout the transition.

Qualifications

• Three or more years of progressive bookkeeping or accounting experience, including responsibility for full charge bookkeeping or comparable accounting functions.
• Strong working knowledge of QuickBooks Online and Excel.
• Experience managing month-end close, account reconciliations, and financial reporting.
• Solid understanding of accrual accounting, the general ledger, and financial statements.
• Ability to investigate discrepancies, resolve issues, and follow transactions across connected systems.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage deadlines and competing priorities.
• Clear communication skills and sound judgment when handling confidential financial information.

Preferred Experience

• Experience in distribution, wholesale, food and beverage, manufacturing, or another inventory-based business.
• Familiarity with inventory accounting, cost of goods sold, and inventory management systems.
• Experience working with accounting integrations, e-commerce platforms, or ERP systems.
• Previous responsibility for improving accounting processes or supporting a growing business.
• Experience as a senior bookkeeper, staff or senior accountant, accounting manager, or assistant controller.
