Hargrave Electric Co., Inc. | Houston, Texas | Full-Time, On-Site

Company Description

Hargrave Electric Co., Inc. | Houston, Texas | Full-Time, On-Site

Company Description

Hargrave Electric Co., Inc. is a well-established commercial electrical contractor serving the greater Houston market for more than 50 years. We provide electrical construction, design-build, and service work ranging from small service projects to multi-million-dollar commercial installations.

We are a privately owned company with a long-tenured team, strong customer relationships, and a reputation for quality work and dependable service. Our accounting department works closely with company leadership, project managers, service personnel, vendors, and customers to support the day-to-day operation of the business.

Role Description

Hargrave Electric is seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to oversee the company's day-to-day accounting and administrative financial functions.

This is a hands-on position rather than a purely supervisory accounting role. The Accounting Manager will be responsible for managing payroll, accounts payable, customer invoicing, financial reporting, insurance administration, tax reporting, and other accounting functions required to keep the company running smoothly.

The ideal candidate is highly organized, dependable, comfortable handling multiple responsibilities, and experienced working in a privately held business environment. Experience with construction accounting or a commercial contractor is strongly preferred.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and process company payroll accurately and on schedule

  • Oversee accounts payable, including vendor invoices, payment processing, and account reconciliation

  • Prepare and manage customer invoices and coordinate billing with project managers and service personnel

  • Monitor accounts receivable and assist with collections and payment follow-up

  • Maintain the general ledger and prepare journal entries and account reconciliations

  • Assist with monthly and year-end financial statement preparation

  • Maintain accurate job cost and project accounting information

  • Coordinate with project managers regarding billing, costs, change orders, and project financial information

  • Prepare quarterly and annual tax reports and provide information to outside accountants and tax professionals

  • Manage insurance renewals and coordinate information requested by insurance brokers and carriers

  • Issue and maintain Certificates of Insurance (COIs) for customers, projects, and vendors

  • Maintain workers' compensation, general liability, auto, and other company insurance documentation

  • Assist with annual audits, insurance audits, and other financial or compliance reviews

  • Maintain fixed asset records and depreciation schedules

  • Assist with cash flow management, budgeting, and financial reporting

  • Maintain accounting records, supporting documentation, and internal controls

  • Work directly with company ownership and management on financial and administrative matters

  • Assist with additional accounting and administrative responsibilities as needed

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of accounting or financial management experience

  • Strong experience with payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, invoicing, and general ledger accounting

  • Experience preparing or assisting with monthly financial statements and account reconciliations

  • Strong understanding of basic accounting principles and financial reporting

  • Experience with construction, contracting, or project-based accounting strongly preferred

  • Familiarity with job costing, progress billing, retainage, and construction-related accounting is a plus

  • Experience managing business insurance documentation and Certificates of Insurance is preferred

  • Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Excel

  • Strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail

  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and responsibilities independently

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with employees, customers, vendors, project managers, and company leadership

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field preferred; equivalent relevant experience will also be considered

  • CPA certification is not required

What We're Looking For

We are looking for someone who takes ownership of the accounting function and enjoys being involved in the day-to-day operation of a successful construction company.
