The Accounting Manager oversees day-to-day accounting operations at the local branch level, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial information and maintaining a strong internal control environment. This role is responsible for leading the month-end close process, managing accounting staff, and preparing branch-level financial results for reporting to the corporate finance team. The Accounting Manager partners closely with corporate and cross-functional stakeholders to support business objectives, ensure compliance with company policies, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Accounting Operations
- Oversee accounts payable (AP) and accounts receivable (AR) functions
- Ensure accuracy and integrity of aging reports and financial transactions
- Establish and maintain effective accounting policies, procedures, and controls
- Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes and schedules
- Review and approve general ledger (GL) activity and reconciliations
- Prepare consolidated trial balances and supporting documentation
- Analyze budget-to-actual variances and provide insights to leadership
Financial Integrity & Controls
- Maintain accurate financial records and journal entry processes
- Ensure the integrity of balance sheet accounts through robust reconciliation practices
- Design, implement, and monitor internal controls; perform control testing and remediation as needed
Asset & Lease Accounting
- Partner with FP&A to manage accounting and reporting for capital assets and leases (including IFRS 16 where applicable)
- Support depreciation forecasting and budgeting for capital and leased assets
Leadership & Team Development
- Supervise and develop accounting team members
- Provide coaching, performance feedback, and professional development opportunities
- Promote a culture of accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement
Cross-Functional Partnership
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to improve financial processes and controls
- Support system implementations, acquisitions, and process changes
- Participate in finance transformation and other ad hoc projects
Additional Duties
- Perform other duties as assigned to support business objectives
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
- Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience, including general ledger close and financial reporting
- Prior experience supervising accounting or transactional teams (AP, AR, or general accounting)
- Strong understanding of internal controls over financial reporting
- Proven leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Strong analytical and organizational abilities
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, results-driven environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in HVAC, home services, utilities, or similar industry
- Experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, ADP Workforce Now)
- Experience with ServiceTitan
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, etc.)
