Job summary

North American Coal is seeking an experienced accounting/finance professional to manage GAAP-compliant financial statements, oversee audits, and drive cash flow planning. You will lead a team, coordinate with internal and external stakeholders, and ensure adherence to MSHA and regulatory requirements.

The role requires a Bachelor’s in accounting or finance with 6+ years of progressive experience; CPA/CMA is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance is required.
  • Minimum 6 years of progressive experience in accounting, finance, or FP&A.
  • CPA or CMA certification is preferred.
  • Experience leading accounting or financial teams is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and present GAAP-compliant financial statements.
  • Oversee internal, external, federal and state audits.
  • Monitor cash flow projections and related budgets.
  • Mentor and develop accounting staff.
  • Ensure compliance with MSHA, safety and environmental regulations.

Job description

Job Description:
  • Fairly state financial statements with no deviations from GAAP
  • Responsible for all audits, including but not limited to Internal, external, federal and state
  • Remain current with GAAP pronouncements
  • Supervise, lead, train, and develop personnel
  • Communicate with internal and external customers and process requested information
  • Responsible for long- and short-term cash and financing projections, and related budgets
  • Responsible for calculating mine closing financial entries and forecasts
  • Perform job duties in accordance with MSHA law and regulations, established company safety procedures and state and federal environmental regulations
Other Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Ability to work under stringent deadlines and multi-task
  • Ability to prioritize multiple requests and projects
  • Detail-oriented and highly accurate
  • Develop and conduct training
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Ethical, trustworthy, and able to handle confidential information
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills, including the ability to effectively communicate financial positions to non-accountant management
  • Accurate, detail oriented and dependable
  • Strong knowledge of current GAAP requirements
  • Strong knowledge and experience with audit procedures
  • Self-motivated with good time-management and organizational skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite products – especially Excel, Outlook, and Word
  • Experience with successfully directing and supervising others
Education and Training:
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance is required
  • Minimum of 6 years of progressive experience in accounting, finance, or financial planning is required
  • Previous supervisory experience leading accounting or financial teams is preferred
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) is preferred
ANALYSIS OF PHYSICAL DEMANDS FOR POSITION:

NOTE: This position requires ability to work primarily indoors. Employees must be able to safely operate company vehicles/equipment as required. Employees must be able to work while wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE), including but not limited to safety footwear, safety glasses, hard hat, and ear protection, while in active work areas.
