Job summary

NACCO Industries, Inc. is seeking a senior accountant/controller to ensure GAAP-compliant financial statements and strong audit readiness. You will oversee audits, supervise staff, and forecast cash and budgets while communicating complex financial positions to management.

The role requires a accounting/finance degree and 6+ years of progressive experience, with CPA or CMA preferred to support leadership and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required.
  • Minimum 6 years of progressive accounting, finance, or FP&A experience required.
  • Previous supervisory experience leading accounting or financial teams preferred.
  • CPA or CMA certification is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Fairly state financial statements with GAAP accuracy.
  • Oversee internal, external, federal and state audits.
  • Maintain current GAAP knowledge and apply it to reporting.
  • Supervise, train, and develop accounting staff.
  • Communicate financial positions to management and customers.

Job description

Employee Type: Regular This position is responsible for ensuring all financial statement accurately present the financial position of the company to management and customers. Related journal entries, audit workpapers, payments, cash forecasts and budgets will be prepared consistently following generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) at all times.

This position includes decisions and/or recommendations regarding personnel actions and employee development.

Job Description
Essential Duties
  • Fairly state financial statements with no deviations from GAAP
  • Responsible for all audits, including but not limited to Internal, external, federal and state
  • Remain current with GAAP pronouncements
  • Supervise, lead, train, and develop personnel
  • Communicate with internal and external customers and process requested information
  • Responsible for long- and short-term cash and financing projections, and related budgets
  • Responsible for calculating mine closing financial entries and forecasts
  • Perform job duties in accordance with MSHA law and regulations, established company safety procedures and state and federal environmental regulations

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Ethical, trustworthy, and able to handle confidential information
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills, including the ability to effectively communicate financial positions to non-accountant management
  • Accurate, detail oriented and dependable
  • Strong knowledge of current GAAP requirements
  • Strong knowledge and experience with audit procedures
  • Self-motivated with good time-management and organizational skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite products - especially Excel, Outlook, and Word
  • Experience with successfully directing and supervising others
Education and Training
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance is required
  • Minimum of 6 years of progressive experience in accounting, finance, or financial planning is required
  • Previous supervisory experience leading accounting or financial teams is preferred
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) is preferred

NOTE: This position requires ability to work primarily indoors. Employees must be able to safely operate company vehicles/equipment as required. Employees must be able to work while wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE), including but not limited to safety footwear, safety glasses, hard hat, and ear protection, while in active work areas.
