Job summary

Mid-America Associates, Inc. seeks a hands-on Accounting Lead to oversee the financial operations of the organization and affiliates.

Reporting to the President, the CFO will manage accounting, audit processes, financial reporting, and regulatory compliance in a small, high-responsibility environment. This role requires strong leadership, deep knowledge of accounting principles, and the ability to partner with senior leadership, external CPAs, actuaries, and investment advisors across multiple

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field.
• Significant accounting and finance experience, preferably in the insurance industry.
• Solid understanding of financial reporting, accounting principles, and regulatory requirements.
• Experience with insurance statutory accounting and/or multi-state insurance operations is highly desirable.
• Audit experience is highly desirable.
• CPA, MBA, or other advanced professional designation is preferred.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage a broad range of responsibilities in a small, hands-on environment.
• High level of integrity, discretion, and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Oversee all accounting and financial reporting functions for Mid-America Associates, Inc.
• Direct monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting and filings.
• Oversee insurance-related accounting and regulatory requirements across states.
• Manage daily treasury and banking activities, including cash management.
• Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, commissions, and other core functions.
• Supervise and develop two accounting department employees.
• Oversee financial operations including monthly accounting and reporting.
• Maintain relationships with CPA, actuary, investment advisors, and partners.
• Oversee HR activities, including payroll and compliance.
• Ensure maintenance of financial records, systems, and technology.
• Oversee disaster recovery planning and documentation.
• Provide financial information and guidance to President and senior leadership.
