Job summary

Sunward Credit Union seeks a Director of Accounting to lead the accounting team and drive accurate financials in a regulated environment. You will oversee the month-end close, GAAP compliance, and strong internal controls while guiding cross-functional collaboration with leadership.

Expect 8+ years in accounting with leadership experience, preferably in financial services or credit unions. Strong Excel skills and CPA is desirable as you elevate reporting and policy adherence.

Qualifications

• Minimum 8 years' experience with 3-5 years in accounting leadership.
• Financial services or credit union experience preferred.
• Strong technical accounting background and team-building track record.
• Advanced MS Office, especially Excel, and ability to learn new software.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop the Accounting team to deliver accurate, timely results.
• Oversee audit readiness, regulatory examinations, and internal controls.
• Ensure payroll accounting accuracy and related tax/benefit obligations.
• Prepare and submit regulatory reports (NCUA Call Report) on time.
• Maintain reconciliations and general ledger integrity across close cycles.
• Partner with leadership to deliver accurate financial statements.
• Oversee fixed assets depreciation, prepaid expenses, and asset accounting.
• Drive process improvements, scalability, and data integrity.
