Whataburger Restaurants in San Antonio seeks an Accounting Data Analyst to transform financial and operational data into insights for better business decisions. You’ll use SQL, analytics, and reporting tools to identify trends, investigate issues, and drive financial performance across delivery and franchise businesses.

This role supports period-end close, ensures data accuracy, and translates activity into meaningful financial insights for leaders.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Business Analytics, Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• 2+ years of financial analysis, accounting or related experience.
• Advanced Excel skills, including XLOOKUP/VLOOKUP, Pivot tables, and data validation.
• Intermediate experience developing SQL queries to extract, join, and analyze data, including aggregate functions and subqueries.
• Ability to research and analyze discrepancies by querying underlying transactional data.
• Experience with variance, trend, and performance analysis.
• Proficiency in financial reporting and data tools.
• Understanding of journal entries and account reconciliations.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Clear written and verbal communication abilities.

Responsibilities

• Develop SQL queries to analyze financial and operational data
• Identify trends, risks, and opportunities through data analysis
• Conduct ad hoc analysis to diagnose issues and support resolution
• Prepare financial analysis and materials for leadership review
• Support accounting processes, including reconciliations and journal entries
• Partner with cross-functional teams to support business initiatives
• Support timely and accurate period-and year-end close processes
• Maintain accurate, consistent financial data and reporting
• Improve reporting efficiency and data quality
