Job summary

Mackie Myers is partnering with a leading sports and entertainment organization in Orange County, CA to hire an experienced Accounting Consultant on a temporary basis for an initial project of up to six months.

The Accounting Consultant will work across a variety of accounting and finance projects, reviewing processes, reconciling records and ensuring accurate revenue recognition while taking ownership from issue identification to resolution.

Qualifications

• Senior Accountant or Accounting Manager level experience.
• Strong knowledge of general ledger and balance sheet accounting.
• Experience completing and reviewing reconciliations.
• Experience with month-end close and financial reporting.
• Excellent Excel skills with large datasets.
• Attention to detail and ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Experience resolving historical accounting discrepancies.
• Experience in sports/entertainment or high-volume environments is useful but not essential.

Responsibilities

• Review existing accounting processes, reconciliations and records for issues.
• Investigate and resolve historical accounting discrepancies.
• Complete and review complex bank, balance sheet and general ledger reconciliations.
• Review revenue recognition and ensure accurate postings across accounts and events.
• Support reconciliations between POS systems, bank settlements and the general ledger.
• Review intercompany accounting items and assist AR/AP investigations.
• Assist with month-end close and improve financial reporting accuracy.
• Prepare schedules, reconciliations and documentation for audits.
• Identify weaknesses in processes and implement improvements.

Temporary Accounting Manager/Consultant – Sports & Entertainment

Orange County, CA | Up to 6 Months | Confidential

Mackie Myers is partnering with a leading sports and entertainment organization in Orange County to hire an experienced Accounting Consultant on a temporary basis for an initial project of up to six months.

This is not simply a month-end management position. The business is looking for someone with strong core accounting knowledge who can quickly get into the detail, understand existing processes, identify accounting issues and help resolve them.

The successful candidate will be comfortable working independently, investigating problems and taking ownership of projects through to completion.

The Role

The Accounting Consultant will work across a variety of accounting and finance projects, with responsibilities likely to include:

• Reviewing existing accounting processes, reconciliations and financial records to identify issues or areas requiring improvement
• Investigating and resolving historical accounting discrepancies
• Completing and reviewing complex bank, balance sheet and general ledger reconciliations
• Reviewing revenue recognition and ensuring transactions are recorded accurately across the appropriate accounts, departments and events
• Supporting reconciliations between POS systems, bank settlements and the general ledger
• Reviewing and resolving intercompany accounting items
• Supporting Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable where accounting issues require additional investigation
• Assisting with month-end close and improving the accuracy and quality of financial reporting
• Preparing schedules, reconciliations and supporting documentation for audit purposes
• Identifying weaknesses in existing accounting processes and implementing practical improvements
• Supporting clean-up projects across the general ledger and balance sheet
• Working through ad hoc accounting issues and projects as they arise
• Documenting processes and helping leave the finance function in a stronger position at the end of the assignment

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone with a strong grounding in fundamental accounting principles who is comfortable being brought into a business to solve problems.

The successful candidate will likely have:

• Strong accounting experience at Senior Accountant, Accounting Manager or more senior level
• Excellent knowledge of general ledger and balance sheet accounting
• Significant experience completing and reviewing reconciliations
• Strong understanding of accruals, prepayments, revenue, AP, AR and month-end accounting
• Experience investigating accounting discrepancies and correcting historical issues
• The ability to understand unfamiliar accounting processes quickly
• Strong Excel skills and confidence working with large volumes of financial data
• Excellent attention to detail
• The ability to prioritize multiple projects and work with limited supervision
• A practical, hands-on and problem-solving approach

Experience within sports, entertainment, hospitality, food & beverage or another high-volume transactional environment would be useful but is not essential.

Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 would also be advantageous.

The Assignment

This is expected to be a project-based temporary assignment lasting up to six months.

It would particularly suit an experienced accounting professional who enjoys going into businesses, understanding what is happening beneath the numbers and taking ownership of getting accounting issues resolved.
