Accounting Clerk Job Description

Job Summary:

The Accounting Clerk will support our finance department with day-to-day accounting tasks. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, processing transactions, assisting with accounts payable and receivable, and performing general clerical duties. This role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to handle confidential information with integrity. This is an on-site position.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None


Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Data Entry
    • Enter financial transactions into accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, Excel).
    • Record invoices, receipts, and payments.
  • Accounts Payable (AP)
    • Process and record bills from vendors.
    • Prepare payments (checks, ACH, etc.).
    • Match purchase orders, receiving documents, and invoices.
  • Accounts Receivable (AR)
    • Generate and send invoices to customers.
    • Record customer payments.
    • Follow up on overdue accounts.
  • Bank Reconciliation
    • Compare company records with bank statements to ensure accuracy.
    • Identify and resolve discrepancies.
  • Filing and Record-Keeping
    • Maintain paper and electronic financial records.
    • Organize files for audits and internal reviews.
  • Payroll Support
    • Record payroll transactions in the ledger.
  • Assist with Financial Reporting
    • Provide support to accountants or supervisors during month-end or year-end closing.
    • Generate basic financial summaries or spreadsheets.
Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with vendors, customers and co-workers.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point) or related software (NetSuite a plus).
  • Ability to work independently and in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to anticipate work needs and interact professionally with customers.


Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting preferred.
  • At least two years of related experience required.


Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
