Job summary

Delta Dental Plan of Michigan, Inc. is seeking an Accounting Clerk to support daily accounting tasks in a hybrid role in Okemos, MI. You’ll enter transactions, process deposits, reconcile accounts and assist with billing activities alongside the finance team.

The ideal candidate has a high school diploma, some bookkeeping coursework or experience, and demonstrates proficiency with spreadsheet software and basic accounting concepts. Strong accuracy and reliability are essential.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Bookkeeping/accounting coursework or 2 years bookkeeping experience
  • Pass Accounting Clerk assessment with 80% accuracy within the past 12 months
  • Proficiency with personal computing and spreadsheet applications (80% test accuracy)

Responsibilities

  • Creates accounting data, initiates journal entries and records in the finance system
  • Processes remote deposit and lockbox deposit transactions
  • Reconciles general ledger, vendor, bank and customer accounts periodically
  • Verifies EFT totals and check issue totals with banks
  • Maintains call lists and aging reports for group billing
  • Creates miscellaneous invoices and maintains records
  • Handles inquiries from internal and external sources
  • Maintains related departmental records and files
  • Processes overpayments and returned checks
  • Adjusts claims including reversing, re-adding and correcting

Job Summary

Typical Assignments
  • Creates accounting data, initiates corresponding journal entries, and enters into finance/accounting system
  • Processes remote deposit and lockbox deposit transactions
  • Reconciles accounting data including but not limited to, general ledger, vendor accounts, bank statements, and customer accounts on a periodic basis
  • Verifies electronic fund transfers (EFT) totals and check issue totals with banking institutions
  • Maintains call lists and aging reports for group billing accounts
  • Creates miscellaneous invoices and maintains appropriate records
  • Handles telephone and written inquires from internal and external sources
  • Operates office equipment which may include personal computer, copier, fax, scanner, calculator and adding machine, etc.
  • Maintains related departmental records and files
  • Processes personal overpayment and/or Delta returned checks from providers and/or subscribers
  • Adjusts claims as necessary, including reversing, re-adding, and correcting
Minimum Requirements
  • Possess a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Bookkeeping/accounting course work to include the completion of Principles of Accounting or two years work experience involving bookkeeping/accounting procedures including balancing and reconciling
  • Successful completion of the Accounting Clerk assessment (passing score of 80% accuracy) within the past 12 months
  • Knowledge of personal computing and software applications through experience, coursework, or successful completion (80% accuracy) of applicable test administered by Human Resources including: Intermediate spreadsheet applications
