Job summary

Safe Harbor Credit Union is seeking an Accounting Clerk to support clerical, accounting and bookkeeping duties, assisting the Accounting Manager with special projects as needed.

Responsibilities include daily report processing, ACH handling, GL balancing, ATM/FRB duties, payables, Teller support and filing, with a focus on accuracy and adherence to credit union policies. On-site role based in Ludington, MI.

  • Balance ACH settlement totals.
  • Post ACH returns to the General Ledger.
  • Set up, change or delete ACH distributions.
  • Daily check exception processing.
  • Post prior day ACH, Clearings and NSF Return totals; verify Loan/Share GL balances.
  • Balance Coin Machine GL daily.
  • Print and post daily settlement totals for Alloya.
  • Process all incoming bills and remit payment.
  • Assist tellers with processing or member questions; post reversals if needed.
  • Process returned mail and mail address changes.
  • File and maintain paid invoices; prepare daily/monthly reports; assist other departments.

Description
POSITION PURPOSE

Performs a range of general clerical, accounting, and bookkeeping support functions. Assist Accounting Manager with special projects as needed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES
1. Daily Reports
  • Print, sort and deliver daily reports
2. ACH
  • Process all ACH and Draft exceptions daily
  • Print and mail daily overdraft notices
  • Balance ACH settlement totals
  • Post ACH returns to General Ledger
  • Correct pending ACH errors
  • Set-up, change or delete ACH distributions
3. Check Exceptions
  • Daily check exception processing
4. General Ledger
  • Post prior day ACH, Clearings and NSF Return totals
  • Verify that all Loan and Share account GLs are in balance
  • Verify the Change Fund GL is in balance (if not find and correct offage)
  • Balance Coin Machine GL daily
5. ATM
  • Print daily card reports
  • Reconcile ATM totals for prior day
  • Post totals to the appropriate GL account.
  • Process ATM, Debit card and Credit card adjustments and chargebacks as needed
6. FRB Returns
  • Process FRB Returns
  • Print incoming FRB return notices
  • Debit members and mail notices for returns
  • Mail returned items to members
7. Alloya
  • Print and post daily settlement totals
8. Accounts Payable
  • Process all incoming bills and remit payment
9. Teller
  • Assist tellers with processing or member questions
  • Post transaction reversals (back up only)
  • Find and correct check processing errors
10. Returns Mail
  • Process returned mail
  • Post bad address fees
  • Mail address change forms if applicable
11. Filing
  • File and maintain paid invoices
  • File daily and monthly reports
  • Assist other departments with filing needs.
12. Other duties as assigned
  • Assist other departments with clerical needs as assigned by management
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS
Required Knowledge:

Thorough knowledge of Credit Union products, services, and policies.

Skills/Abilities:

Strong planning and organizational skills, Attention to detail, Strong problem-solving skills, Able to operate related computer applications such as Word, Excel as well as other basic business equipment.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS OF THIS POSITION
Repetitive Motion:

Movements frequently and regularly required using the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.

Average Visual Abilities:

Average, ordinary, visual acuity necessary to prepare or inspect documents or products or operate machinery.

Average Hearing:

Able to hear average or normal conversations and receive ordinary information.

Physical Strength:

Sedentary work; sitting most of the time. Exerts up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally.

MENTAL ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS OF THIS POSITION
Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply logical thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw conclusions.

Able to deal with multiple variables.

Mathematics Ability:

Ability to perform basic math skills, use decimals to compute ratios and percents.

Language Ability:

Ability to read and comprehend periodicals, journals, manuals, dictionaries, thesauruses, and encyclopedias.

Ability to prepare business letters, summaries, and reports using prescribed format and conforming to all rules of punctuation, grammar, diction, and style.
