Reading Partners, a national nonprofit focused on literacy, seeks an Accounting Capacity Building VISTA to strengthen financial workflows and internal controls. You will document processes, develop reporting tools, and create dashboard prototypes to support organizational decision-making.

You will gain experience in nonprofit accounting, financial systems, data management, and process improvement while collaborating with the Accounting team and stakeholders across Reading Partners.

Job description

Reading Partners is a national nonprofit dedicated to helping children become lifelong readers by connecting them with community volunteers and evidence-based literacy support. For more than 25 years, Reading Partners has worked alongside schools, families, and communities to expand access to high-quality literacy resources for students in historically underserved communities. As an Accounting and Financial Systems Capacity Building VISTA, you will help strengthen the financial infrastructure that supports Reading Partners' mission. You will improve financial workflows, document accounting processes, develop internal control resources, create reporting tools, and build systems that make financial information more consistent, accessible, and useful for organizational decision-making. Your work will create sustainable infrastructure that can benefit Reading Partners long after your service term ends. We are looking for a detail-oriented, curious, and collaborative individual who enjoys solving problems and improving systems. Strong candidates will have an interest in accounting, nonprofit finance, financial operations, data management, or process improvement, along with strong organizational and analytical skills. Experience with accounting software, spreadsheets, financial reporting, documentation, or process improvement is a plus. During your service, you will gain experience in nonprofit accounting, financial systems, internal controls, data management, financial reporting, process improvement, and organizational operations. You will work with Reading Partners' Accounting team and organizational stakeholders while building practical skills and a portfolio of systems, tools, and resources that contribute to the financial sustainability of a national education nonprofit.

Member Duties

• As an Accounting Capacity Building VISTA, you will review and document financial workflows across Salesforce, Sage Intacct, Concur, and Google Sheets; identify opportunities to improve data consistency, efficiency, and coordination; develop standardized process guides for recurring accounting activities; strengthen documentation of internal controls, policies, and procedures; organize financial resources into accessible systems; research leadership reporting needs and develop standardized financial reporting templates and dashboard prototypes; support the organization and reconciliation of financial data used for reporting; create staff training and reference materials; and document recommendations to streamline accounting workflows and support continued improvement.
