Reading Partners is a national nonprofit focused on helping children become lifelong readers through community volunteers and literacy support. This National Development and Fundraising Capacity Building VISTA role strengthens fundraising systems and supports campaigns across the country.

You will research philanthropic opportunities, build pipelines, and develop development operations that benefit the organization beyond the service term.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Assess development operations and identify opportunities to strengthen systems, workflows, data management, and coordination.
• Research foundations, corporations, institutional funders, and philanthropic partners; develop prospect profiles; maintain a national pipeline.
• Create standardized prospect research and donor stewardship tools, including calendars, tracking systems, communication templates, and recognition resources.
• Analyze donor and prospect data to identify engagement, cultivation, and retention opportunities.
• Support national fundraising campaigns and annual appeals through project plans and tracking tools; document processes in a centralized resource library.

Job description

Reading Partners is a national nonprofit dedicated to helping children become lifelong readers by connecting them with community volunteers and evidence-based literacy support. For more than 25 years, Reading Partners has worked alongside schools, families, and communities to expand access to high-quality literacy resources for students in historically underserved communities. As a National Development and Fundraising Capacity Building VISTA, you will strengthen the systems and infrastructure that support Reading Partners' national fundraising efforts. You will research philanthropic opportunities, build prospect pipelines, strengthen donor stewardship, support fundraising campaigns, and develop sustainable development operations that will benefit the organization beyond your service term. We are looking for a curious, highly organized, and collaborative individual who enjoys research, problem-solving, and building systems. Strong candidates will have excellent written communication, research, project management, and analytical skills, with an interest in nonprofit development, philanthropy, education, or social impact. Experience with prospect research, fundraising, donor relations, data management, or project coordination is a plus. During your service, you will gain hands‑on experience in nonprofit fundraising, institutional philanthropy, prospect research, donor stewardship, campaign strategy, development operations, data management, and national systems building. You will collaborate with Reading Partners' National Development team and stakeholders across the organization while building a portfolio of work with a national education nonprofit.
