Job summary

Scion Staffing has been engaged to conduct a search for an Accounting Associate for an established private family office in San Francisco, CA. This is a full-time, direct-hire opportunity offering a hybrid schedule with onsite work Tuesday through Thursday.

The role requires 4–5+ years in accounting, strong GAAP knowledge, and nonprofit/foundation experience. You will support grants, month-end close, forecasting, reporting, audits, and tax coordination in a collaborative environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or master’s degree preferred.
  • 4–5+ years of accounting or finance experience, ideally within nonprofit, foundation, family office, or related environment.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, reconciliations, and financial analysis.
  • Experience supporting or preparing financial information for Boards, Finance Committees, or Audit Committees.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while handling sensitive financial and client information with professionalism and discretion.
  • Experience with financial systems; Sage Intacct, BILL, and Salesforce experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Manage foundation accounting activities, including grant and vendor payments, reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end close.
  • Develop cash flow projections, monitor funding and liquidity needs, and analyze actual results against budgets and forecasts.
  • Prepare financial reports and supporting materials for internal stakeholders, Boards, and committees.
  • Coordinate audit preparation, year-end activities, and documentation requests from auditors and tax teams.
  • Maintain accurate grant and payment records and collaborate with accounting, philanthropy, and tax teams.
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen internal controls, streamline processes, and improve accounting accuracy and efficiency.

POSITION OVERVIEW

Our client is seeking an experienced accounting professional to join its team and provide comprehensive accounting and financial support for private charitable foundations. This role is ideal for someone who combines strong accounting fundamentals with nonprofit or foundation experience and enjoys working in a collaborative, service-oriented environment. The Accounting Associate will support foundation operations across grant and vendor payments, month-end close, cash flow forecasting, financial reporting, audit preparation, and tax support. This position will also play an important role in anticipating future financial needs, strengthening internal processes, and partnering across accounting, philanthropy, and tax functions to support growing philanthropic activity.

RESPONSIBILITIES

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

This full-time, direct-hire opportunity offers a base salary of $115,000–$130,000, depending on experience, plus an annual discretionary bonus. Our client also offers a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision coverage; a 401(k) with a 5% employer match plus an additional annual employer contribution; flexible time off; paid medical leave; 20 weeks of paid parental leave; childcare support for qualified families; commuter benefits; education assistance; and additional wellness and family benefits.

LOCATION

This position is based in San Francisco, CA and follows a hybrid schedule, with employees working onsite Tuesday through Thursday.
