Job Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented Accounting Associate for a direct hire opportunity in Laguna Beach, CA. This role supports day-to-day accounting and financial operations for a real estate portfolio and related entities, offering hands‑on exposure to property accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, financial reporting, cash management, construction accounting, and lender draw processes. This is an excellent opportunity for an early‑career accounting professional, accounting student, recent graduate, or developing AP/AR professional who wants to move beyond basic data entry and build a strong foundation in real estate accounting. The Accounting Associate will work closely with an experienced team that provides training, guidance, and exposure to a broad range of accounting responsibilities. The environment is well suited for someone who values accuracy, teamwork, supportive leadership, and long‑term professional growth. A successful candidate can grow into roles such as Junior Accountant, Staff Accountant, Property Accountant, or Senior Property Accountant as they gain experience managing the full monthly accounting cycle for assigned properties.

Key Responsibilities

• Process vendor invoices, code expenses to the correct property, entity, account, and project, maintain supporting documentation, and assist with weekly check runs.
• Support accounts receivable functions, including tenant ledger management, payment posting, outstanding balance tracking, AR reporting, and reconciliation to the general ledger.
• Assist with accounting for multiple real estate properties and related entities, including management fees, leasing commissions, reimbursements, intercompany activity, and property‑level expenses.
• Perform monthly bank and credit card reconciliations, research discrepancies, match transactions to receipts, and maintain accurate reconciliation workbooks.
• Support month‑end close and financial reporting, including general ledger review, account reconciliations, journal entry support, prepaid expenses, cash balances, and budget‑to‑actual reporting.
• Assist with construction accounting and lender draw documentation, including invoice organization, draw schedules, project expenditure tracking, reserves, and reconciliation of draws to accounting records.

Required Qualifications and Skills

• Support accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, and general ledger accounting for multiple properties and related entities.
• Assist with monthly close, property‑level financial reporting, and budget‑to‑actual review.
• Maintain accurate accounting records in Yardi, including invoice entry, coding, AR entries, report generation, and account research.
• Assist with cash management, wire documentation, construction invoices, lender draws, and supporting schedules.
• Yardi Software
• 3 to 5 years of relevant accounting, AP, AR, bookkeeping, finance administration, or related experience.
• Coursework completed or in progress in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
• Strong understanding of basic accounting principles and financial documentation.
• Strong Excel skills and comfort working with spreadsheets, reconciliations, and financial data.
• High attention to detail with the ability to identify discrepancies, research issues, and follow through to resolution.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple entities, properties, accounts, deadlines, and priorities.
• Professional written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to handle confidential financial information with accuracy, discretion, and sound judgment.
• Ability to work independently while knowing when to ask questions or elevate issues.

Preferred Qualifications

• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Experience with Yardi, including AP processing, AR entries, general ledger review, coding, and financial report generation.
• Real estate accounting, property accounting, construction accounting, or investment accounting experience.
• Experience with bank reconciliations, credit card reconciliations, lender draws, lien releases, and supporting documentation.
• Understanding of financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, general ledgers, AR reports, AP reports, and budget‑to‑actual reports.

Compensation and Benefits

• Salary range: $70,000 to $75,000 per year.
