JOB DESCRIPTION: ACCOUNTING ASSISTANT

REPORTS TO: CONTROLLER

FLSA STATUS: NON-EXEMPT

WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR

First Avenue (First Avenue, 7th St. Entry, Turf Club, Fine Line, Fitzgerald Theater, Palace Theatre, and outside venue shows) is seeking a candidate for the accounting department that is extremely detail-oriented, technology-proficient, leads by example at all times, and provides the highest level of service to management and guests.

HOURS AND LOCATION

This is a full-time hourly (non-exempt) position with regular weekly hours, Monday through Friday. Availability on nights and weekends for emergencies only.Work must be performed on-site at our downtown Minneapolis office.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Monitor and reconcile bank accounts, including checkbook entries and disbursement tracking.
• Review and reconcile monthly credit card transactions, ensuring receipts match expenses and preparing reports.
• Perform daily data entry into accounting system for general business activity.
• Process accounts payable: review invoices, verify approvals, enter data, and prepare weekly check runs.
• Assist with month-end close process and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Identify opportunities for automation, including use of AI tools, and assist in implementation of improvements to existing processes.
• Track outbound payments reporting, including monitoring for tax compliance.
• Maintain and update accounting system master files, such as vendor information and inventory details.
• Update daily show dashboards and key performance metrics across all venues.
• Monitor merchant accounts and handle credit card chargebacks.
• Maintain corporate records and vendor cover sheets, both digitally and in physical files.
• Provide administrative support to finance, operations, and booking departments as needed.
• Perform general office duties such as filing, organizing, and supply ordering.
• Support executive management with regular and ad hoc financial reporting.
• Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

• Treasury or finance education or experience required
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel required
• Attention to detail and critical mindset is required
• Interest and education with technology and ability to learn new software tools, including AI, is a plus
• Uncompromising level of integrity and commitment to accuracy of all work performed
• Knowledge of the Compeat Restaurant Management System accounting software is preferred; knowledge of Restaurant365 is a plus
• Must have valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
• Must be able to work well independently and perform while under pressure, including tight time deadlines
• Must have excellent problem solving and strategic thinking skills

Must be resourceful, extremely organized and self-disciplined. Must demonstrate curiosity for using technology to maximize efficiency of repeatable tasks.Must be a team player with a can-do positive attitude and able to maintain a superior level of service to the venue, owners, artists, artist reps, and fans.
