Job summary

CarbonBetter, a sustainability and energy logistics company based in Austin, TX, seeks an Accounting Analyst to support daily accounting operations for its fast-growing business. You will handle AR/AP, general ledger, month-end close, and financial reporting for stand-alone portfolios while building scalable processes as the company expands.

You will work with our natural gas operations, reconcile trades, manage bank reconciliations, and contribute to internal controls and compliance.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience in accounting or a closely related field.
• Strong ability to multitask, prioritize, and deliver in a busy, fast-growth environment.
• Self-starter mindset with the ability to work independently with limited formal training and supervision.
• Advanced Excel skills, including lookups and complex formulas.
• Solid knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures in accounting and finance.
• Collaborative attitude, flexibility, and eagerness to learn within a team environment.
• International accounting and state tax experience is a plus but not required.
• QuickBooks experience is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Partner with various natural gas counterparties to reconcile and resolve discrepancies for wholesale natural gas trades.
• Collaborate with internal trade operations to reconcile trade statements with external counterparties and resolve differences.
• Support compliance with state taxes related to natural gas activities.
• Perform accounts receivable and accounts payable processing and data entry with a high level of accuracy.
• Prepare, reconcile, and remit weekly sales commissions for external channel partners.
• Perform monthly profit and loss analysis for assigned accounts.
• Reconcile and monitor cash balances including daily bank reconciliations for multiple accounts.
• Review accounting records, financial statements, and reports for GAAP compliance.
• Investigate and resolve financial discrepancies by collecting and analyzing account information.
• Maintain and improve accounting controls by following processes and suggesting enhancements.
• Provide backup to the Accounting Team with financial reports, state information and tax reporting, audits, and ad-hoc tasks as needed.
• Protect the organization’s confidentiality of financial and personnel information.
