Job description

The University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) is hiring an Accounting Analyst for its Office of Student Accounts. This entry-level, full-time position is located in Adelphi, MD and offers a hybrid work arrangement.

Responsibilities
  • Administer and maintain assigned third-party payer accounts to verify transaction accuracy and enforce uniform application of policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Receive, analyze, and prepare internal/external reconciliations, exhibit summaries, and use assigned databases for financial reporting.
  • Provide world-class customer service via telephone, email, and ticketing system to students, agencies, and internal staff, responding to all inquiries within one business day and troubleshooting issues accurately.
  • Ensure transactions are in compliance with applicable authority, policies, procedures, and accounting standards.
  • Review and process routine financial documents (invoices, vouchers, receipts, and reports) to ensure mathematical accuracy and completeness.
  • Maintain manual and automated record-keeping systems by tracking, verifying, and updating records, files, and reports; input, monitor, and correct data in automated systems; and generate reports.
  • Perform complex clerical activities for third-party accounting, such as posting tuition assistance for military, private, and USM agencies, billing, invoicing, collections of related accounts receivable, refunding payments as necessary, and filing tuition assistance forms and invoices.
  • Process and reconcile third-party transactions within one business day while ensuring compliance with UMGC, State, and Federal policies and maintaining quality-assurance standards.
  • Conduct general research and provide overviews of billing, receipt, and collection procedures and programs.
  • Execute other job-related duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution in Business Management, Finance, Accounting, Information Systems, or a related field, plus two (2) years of related experience.
  • Knowledge of best practices, principles, theories, techniques, and methodology in the field, and familiarity with all relevant federal, state, and local rules, regulations, and programs/policies for compliance.
  • Ability to participate in the development of policies and procedures for the unit, and to communicate results both orally and in writing to clients and management.
  • Skill in acting as a liaison with key external agencies, campuses, or other high-level contacts, and proficiency with Microsoft Office and the PeopleSoft financial system for advanced analysis and reporting.
Preferred Education or Experience
  • Master's degree in a related field.

  • Generous time off: 22 days of paid vacation, 15 days of sick leave, 3 personal days, and 16 paid holidays (17 during general election years). For part-time employees, rates are prorated.

  • Tuition remission for regular exempt staff; spouses and dependent children are eligible after two years of service. For part-time employees (at least 50 percent time) benefits are prorated.
  • Hiring rate: $46,000.00 per year.
