City and County of Honolulu seeks an Accountant V to maintain and reconcile accounting records for treasury activities, including cash receipts, disbursements, investments, and debt transactions. You will set up debt service ledgers and monitor payments on matured bonds, ensuring timely disbursements.
You will prepare financial and compliance reports for internal leadership and external agencies, review data, and supervise accounting staff as needed.

Equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in accounting or in business administration with courses in accounting. (Note: At least 12 semester credits in accounting or auditing courses is needed, six of which must be above the beginning or elementary course level from an accredited four-year college or university).
Substitution: Work experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis. Such experience must have provided the knowledge, skills, and analytical ability normally gained from attainment of a bachelor's degree in accounting or business administration with courses in accounting.
The education requirement must be met at the time of application. Education obtained outside of the United States must be comparable to a degree earned at an accredited college/university in the United States. In order to receive credit for the education, proper documentation, e.g., a foreign credential evaluation (FCE), must be provided. We also reserve the right to request further information about your academic program, evidence of comparability, or an original transcript.
Four (4) years of progressively responsible work experience in professional accounting, including or supplemented by work experience demonstrating aptitude or potential for the performance of supervisory duties.
Substitution: A Master's degree in Accounting from an accredited four-year college or university will substitute for one of the required four years of professional accounting experience.
